If you have seen it yet, here’s a graph of what’s been happening to newspaper subscription rates over the past two decades. Bad omen for anyone who likes to turn his news into a captain’s hat when he’s done with it.

I looked at yer fancy picture, but I don’t recognize any of those constellations. Are they in the southern hemisphere?
The largest newspaper in my state is the Anchorage Daily News. It is a McClatchy owned left wing piece of s**t that is completely biased in it’s presentation of the news and it’s editorial stance. Personally speaking…if it does fold I for one will not miss it at all.
my local paper doesn’t even make good TP.
If I didn’t deliver mail on saturdays, I wouldn’t know that newspapers existed. And at that, TWO people on the route get the WSJ, that’s the extent of it.
My local paper would make good TP except that comes already covered with sh*t
After all of the arrogant crap these “news”papers have fed us over the years, my sympathy is about zero. In Atlanta the Urinal/Constipation chased out any other voice (except liberal) on the newstands. Then argued “We are liberal and good for you, you stupid honkey hicks.” The American newspapr industry has followed the auto industry of the ’70s. Put out a poor product and then whine when the public buys Japanese (or the internet).I miss the Weekly World News. Far more honest and realistic than most fishwrappers.
The comments in these linked stories are always fun to read. About half blame newspapers’ move TO THE RIGHT. One theorized that this move was because of Karl Rove.
When presented with the contradictory data that right-leaning media are doing well, their explanation was like watching a master artist.
You see, right-leaning media was already being read by mouth-breathing racist right-wingers, while papers like the NYT are read by the fair and neutral elite. So when NYT went all right-wing (You all remember that, yes?), they lost all their readers. Genius! I would never have seen it had they not explained it to me.
This can’t be. With Americans eating less beef and more fish, I would have expected the need for “wrap” to be greater.
Not included in the Fishwrap-of Record’s failing business model, is that, they have been so successful in their advocacy of Libtardism, that newly created/converted Libtards no longer read. That, and since everyone’s so busy working 1/3-1/2 the year to pay for the Government Handouts that the Fishwraps-of Record so persuasively preached for, those that can read don’t have the time, or the spare change, for Fishwrap
People just got tired of reading fabricated crap that were considered stories written Liberal idiots. I wouldn’t even line a hamster cage with a newspaper. I would afraid the hamster would retaliate and bite me.
Newspapers? Are they still printing those things? How quaint.
Bad omen for anyone who likes to turn his news into a captain’s hat when he’s done with it.
I think that Obama uses his to line the bucket before he sticks it onto his head.
I like all the pretty colors. Wouldn’t the picture turn out better if they numbered the dots? I mean, look at it… I can’t tell if it is supposed to be an elephant? Or a platypus.
I have to agree with Silhouette. The mental Gymnastics over there actually proved me wrong on a thing or two. Liberals CAN think, however, they only use the power to obfuscate fact rather than accept Truth(TM) and Reason(C).
Most newspapers went full-in lib. And, liberals want everything for free. So, the Wall Street Journal still looks pretty good, while the liberal whiners moved on to the Daily Kos and Huffpo for their daily “news”.
Newspapers? Don’t read ’em. I use ’em for:
* Starting fires
* Stuffing boxes
* Wrapping fish
* Starting fires
* Protecting table from scratchy projects
* Painting drop cloths
* Did I mention starting fires?
All of this makes newsprint a precious commodity.
When newspapers started putting their content online for *FREE!*, they immediately admitted the true worth of their product. Advertisers are pulling their money–there’s no return on it. Savvy job searchers/employers have their ads online. Why go through the trouble and expense of dealing with the local newspaper to get your message out? Nobody in their “right” mind would pay for something that is available for free.
Speaking of right-mindedness, what are papers made of? Why… wood pulp! Where does wood pulp come from? Originally? Trees. Aren’t the tree-huggin’, no deodorant wearing, Birkinstock shuffling, granola-eatin’, protest having, no-job keepin’ libtards vehemently against killing trees? They should be counting this as a triumph! A kick in the crotch to the man, with his resource-wasting, capitalistic agenda.
Sure, some folks would like to hold the newsprint, cutout articles and spend some nostalgic time passing the pages and sections around the table on a sunday morning…but those days are gone, folks. Sorry to break the news…I’m just sayin’.
