They’re the Original Odd Couple!

Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!:

The Vatican said it will make it far easier for disgruntled Anglicans to convert to Catholicism, in one of Rome’s most sweeping gestures to a Protestant church since the Reformation.

A newly created set of canon laws, known as an “Apostolic Constitution,” will clear the way for entire congregations of Anglican faithful to join the Catholic Church.

This is just crazy. Unless the Pope is going to reverse his position on quickie divorces for English Kings, I don’t see how this can work.

I mean, come on… what’s next on the “improbable mash-ups” list?:

* IMAO & Daily Kos

* Irresistable Forces & Immovable Objects

* Fred Thompson & John Edwards

* Rush Limbaugh & Nancy Pelosi

* Smooth & Chunky peanut butter – It’s SMUNKY!

* Obama & decisive action

* Anita Dunn & Ayn Rand

* Barney Frank & Ann Coulter

* McDonalds & The Louvre… oh, wait

* Michelle Obama & fashion sense

  2. I would so eat a donut inside a sausage McMuffin…

    But back on topic, like Oil & Water:

    Conservatives working for ABC/CBS/NBC/PBS/CNN/PMSNBC/NYTimes/etc

    PETA and McDonald’s/KFC

    Sarah Palin and Ashley Jughead

    Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding

    Obama and FOXNEWS

    Algore and The Amish

    Hollywood and the U.S. Military

    U.S. Congresscritters and the American People They Are Supposed To Represent

  4. saveacountryeatalib – I’d pay good money to see Streisand & Nugent, if Ted were opening. That way I could enjoy excellent rock & roll and the despairing misery of Streisand fans who arrived too early.

    Then I just go home after his 5th encore.

    Heaven, man.

  5. When conservative Anglicans and Episcopalians find they have more in common with Catholics than they do with their “liberation theology” brethren and those brethren won’t stop pushing liberal causes in their name, it makes perfect sense to move. High Church Anglicans likely won’t notice a difference.

    Conservative Epicopalians in the US already severed ties with the main body and affiliated with the Anglican church in Africa.

    Since church property is owned at the diocesan level, the liberation theologists around the world are going to find themselves without those resources.

    Serves them right!

  6. Christmas Eve, 1982, Wellington, New Zealand.
    Attended mid-night mass at a beautiful cathedral just up the hill from the harbor.
    Didn’t find out until later it was an Anglican, not Catholic church.
    I couldn’t tell the difference, although the large, framed portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the wall should have given me a hint.

    Liberalism & Rational Thought.
    Liberalism & Free Speech.
    Liberalism & Personal Freedom.

  7. So my burning question is, are they going to allow former Catholic priest who’ve become Anglican priests and now have families to continue to be priests and if they do how are they going to convince the rest of the priests to remain celibate?

    Might help with the priest shortage, and might help with a few of the other problems they’ve been having in the not so distant past.

  8. Mine comes by way of one of my wife’s best friends. We were talking about movies… genres… science fiction came up. She says, “I love that science fiction stuff, like

    Star Trek and Battlefield Earth

    Fortunately for me, my wife is a nurse and knew how to respond to the symptoms of a stroke….
