Alternate Names for the Fiesta Bowl

So non-BCS teams Boise State and TCU fought so hard this season to be able to prove themselves by playing against a top-ranked BCS team on a national stage, both ending their regular seasons undefeated, and now they get to play… each other… just like last year in their consolation-prize bowl.

Gah!

It is the Fiesta Bowl, but these teams wanted to prove themselves to be something other than the best of the non-BCS teams. So here are some suggestions for a more apt name for their game than “Fiesta Bowl”:

ALTERNATE NAMES FOR THE FIESTA BOWL

* The Kiddie Table Bowl

* The David vs. David Bowl

* The Screw You, Non-BCS Teams Bowl

* The Glass Ceiling Bowl

* The Poinsettia Bowl

* The Prevent Embarrassment to BCS Teams Bowl

* The It Doesn’t Matter How Well You Play, We’ll Never Give You a Chance Bowl

* The BCS People Are Worse Than Hitler, Stalin, and the Guy Who Invented Clamshell Packaging Combined Bowl.

Somehow, I blame Obama for all of this.

  2. When did Boise become a state? Is that one of the 57?

    It could be called the “When we get to be a real school, we’ll get to go to a real bowl”.

    The “Watch how good six men ball can be bowl”

    The “We miss the NCAA bowl”

    The “WTF bowl”

  3. Hey, isn’t this bowl method kinda like the primary election process? Media and local politics get to choose who plays when, and the best looking teams don’t even get to compete against each other. (i.e. how the heck did we end up with McCain?)

    Also, I’m calling it now, at least one bowl game will have a half time show starring Justin Timberlake, Barack Obama, and Nancy Pelosi. It will feature a wardrobe malfunction and national plea for universal healthcare # 26. If the wardrobe malfunction has anything to do with Nancy, the healthcare plan had damn well better cover acid wash for my eyes.

  4. Oooh! MarkcoMancuso must be another Razorback fan (i.e., giving the championship to Texas after they screwed the Hogs out of the title!). May we never forget.

    As to the Fiesta — at our house it’s called the “How Pissed Off Can the Future Son-in-Law-Horned-Frog Get?” Bowl.

    And, General? Just don’t even go there to a Pelosi wardrobe malfunction. Just make her wear a Naughty Nurse costume at halftime and give CPR to Obama — she wants so badly to be involved with healthcare, maybe that would satisfy her and she’d shut up.

  5. Nope, Moogie, I’m a Penn State fan. Penn State had an undefeated season with Mike Reid, John Ebersole, Jack Ham, Franco Harris, Charlie Pittman, Neal Smith, and Dennis Onkotz, but Nixon thought he could grab votes in Arkansas and Texas, I suppose.

    What a numbnuts.

  6. * The This Is What You Get for Electing an Incompetant Lightwieght as President Bowl

    Lets pretend like Obama supports the BCS so people will get pissed off at him. After all, if this had happened during Bush’s tenure, it would all somehow be his fault. Just like Afghanistan is now “Obama’s war” and this is “Obama’s recession”, I think it is clear that this is now “Obama’s Bowl”.

  7. Hmmm….how about:

    “The SEC-Big10-Big12 Teams are scared to play us so we’ll just have to play each other Bowl”

    “How many times does a WAC/MWC team have to beat one of the ‘elite’ teams in a bowl game before the rest of the country will shut its collective pie-hole about how ‘weak’ they are Bowl”

    Cuz let’s face it – the reason the BCS committee put them together was so that they wouldn’t have to listen to the truth after TCU beat Ga. Tech and BSU beat Iowa. When Oregon beats Iowa, just remember that it took Oregon 3/4 of the game before they got a first down against BSU.

    But this whole argument just shows what’s wrong with the system. If they just let the darn teams play a playoff then we wouldn’t have to have these meaningless ‘my Dad could beat up your Dad’ discussions. No one (not even the most die-hard ‘Bama fans) thought that the Tide would put such a smack down on Florida but that’s why they play the game. Or they could just not play any games and let the sportswriters pick the champion on August 15th.

  8. I’ve got 2 points of view on this bowl game. 1) I’m sure those involved at TCU and Boise State are really excited to be going to a BCS bowl game – it’s a big deal and it should be exciting – they are both good teams. 2) However… these two teams could have been playing in much more high-profile, exciting games. A TCU-Florida matchup would have been awesome to see, as would a Boise State-Cincinnati.
    But for now, they are Fiesta Bowl bound and should be proud of it. Right? http://www.newsy.com/videos/questioning_the_bcs
