Will the Left Ever Admit They Lost on Gun Control?

After, the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, we have the usual left-wing chorus asking us to look at gun control again, including the squeaks from Mayor Bloomberg, but Obama’s White House has already stated they plan to fight guns with “existing laws,” i.e., no more gun control. Obama has to be pretty freaked that this issue is even being mentioned, as he knows gun control is nothing but a major loser politically. Yet, much of the left who don’t have to worry about elections don’t seem to be absorbing this and are right now talking about, “When will American finally wake up and enact more gun control?”

How’s “never” for the timeline on that.

That’s like asking, “When will America wake up and enforce segregation again?” We’re done with that dark era, and we’re not going back. After the Giffords shooting and there was no new gun legislation — in fact, the Democrat politician who was herself shot didn’t even ask for more gun control — the left should have realized that most Americans no longer think in the terms “Ew! Guns are scary!” in reaction to tragedy. We no longer freakout and turn on freedom because of isolated incidents. But the left don’t seem to get that, so they scream every so often and wonder why no one is hearing them. But they’re like some guy seeing a horrible crime committed by a black person and saying, “Isn’t it time we reconsidered reenact Jim Crow laws?” and then wondering why everyone got so angry.

So will the left ever give up on gun control? Only if we can put as much stigma on being anti-freedom as we do for racism. For now, it’s still considered okay to publicly talk about gun control — as long as you’re not a politician who might face an election.

Random Thoughts: Non-Sane Discussion of Gun Control

All the major political parties in America are staunchly against randomly shooting lots of people.

If it weren’t for mass shootings, how would we ever get to discussing politics?

It’s easy to turn on freedom when bad things happen, true for both right and left at times.

The fascinating thing about Jon Lovitz is seeing someone react to dumb left-wing arguments upon seeing them for the very first time.

Options for shooting reaction: 1) Rampant speculation 2) Crass politicization 3) Pompous sermonizing about speculation and politicization

Ooh, I found a fourth option: Pompous sermonizing about pompous sermonizing.

Vote Bloomberg out, turn to him and say, “This is for your years of service,” and then punch him really hard in the junk.

Today is the anniversary of the moon landing, a time to reflect on the brave roads and bridges that got that done.

Instead of gun control, has anyone thought about making mass shootings illegal?

I just can’t believe the ugly bigotry that led Brian Ross from “Tea Party member” to “maybe this guy massacred people.” Someone that bigoted shouldn’t be anywhere near any sort of political news.

I like Ebert’s movie reviews, but you can find smarter, more self-aware political commentary in the comment section of the DailyKos.

Obama has to be terrified right now that some on the left are going to try and force him to make gun control an issue.

It cost me $10 to get fingerprinted by the police, but if I committed a crime, they’d do it for free. Reverse incentive.

Avengers was good. You should go see it.

Theater had window dressing security with them glancing in SarahK’s purse. Wouldn’t have been enough to find a gun on either of us.

After what happened with the Joe Paterno statue, Philadelphia is praying nothing bad comes out about Rocky Balboa.

Wait; they already weathered Rocky V.

Gun bans never actually ban; just make more expensive. We’re comfortable with powerful firearms only being in the hands of the very rich.

“Only the 1% should have access to assault weapons!”

Chik-fil-A doesn’t discriminate. They’ll make a sandwich out of a gay chicken same as a straight one.

The American people want a “sane” discussion on gun control, but the problem is the liberals keep asking to be involved.

If someone came and took my gun, I’d shoot him with my other gun.

My favorite part of the Avengers movie was definitely the “puny god” sequence. I could watch that over and over.

Yay, I love it when people review my book by not reading it and taking the title seriously.

How to Improve Your Country With Ex-Presidents

W was saying how great it is not to be president anymore and how nice it is being away from the public eye. He also mentioned tangentially the irritation of “former presidents bloviating, opining, telling people how it ought to be done.”

*cough*Carter*cough*Clinton*cough*

It’s true, those 2 really need to shut up more.

On the other hand, it occurred to me that America sure has a lot of ex-presidents who are still alive. Four at the moment.

I notice that suckier countries tend to have fewer.

Russia – 1 (and he’s now Prime Minister)

Cuba – 1

North Korea – 0

Consider freedom a game where the goal is to vote as many guys out of office as possible before they die.

Please help America run up her score in November.

You Didn’t Build That – Readings from the Book of Barack

Excerpt:

1 In the beginning Govt created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the economy was formless and void, darkness was over the surface of the ATMs, and the Spirit of Govt was hovering over the land.

3 And Govt said, “Let there be spending,” and there was spending. 4 Govt saw that the spending was good, and that it separated the light from the darkness. 5 Govt called the spending Investments, and this he did in the first day.

6 Then Govt said, “Let there be roads and bridges across the waters, and let dams divide the waters from the waters.” 7 Thus Govt made the infrastructure and the patronage jobs for eternity under the firmament from the Potomac which was above the firmament; and it was so. 8 And Govt called the firmament Washington. This Govt did on the second day.

As Bad Science [High Praise!] mentioned when he sent me this link, this is related to Frank J’s recent PJ Media column about whining:

If Obamacare Were a Cheeseburger, It Would Be This One

[High Praise! to RAML]

I’m a enthusiastic supporter of any restaurant that sells a burger so outrageously caloric that it makes Michelle Obama’s eye start twitching, so here’s the Monster Burger, a British invention, which is being sold at Smokeys Smoke House, a restaurant featuring American cuisine in Walsa, England (a city of about 170,000 located about 100 miles northwest of London):

3 pounds of ground beef
12 strips of bacon
12 slices of cheese
12 onion rings

It occurred to me that this burger is a good metaphor for Obamacare.

* The first thing you notice is that it’s HUGE.

* You have no say over what’s in it.

* The first few bites are warm & tasty & pleasing (like no pre-existing conditions limitations), but as you get further into it, you rapidly get sick of the taste of cold, congealing, greasy beef (the mandate/tax/penalty)

* If you ever get the whole thing into you, then – healthwise – you will be worse off than you are now.

* It’d be cheaper to buy your own ingredients, put them together yourself, and use them as you needed them.

The way it’s NOT like Obamacare is that socialists hate it, i.e. per the comments:

do you really think this is a laughable blokey subject? the west is obese and the 3rd world is starving?

i kinda hate to be a “think of all the starving children” sort of guy, but really, sandwiches like these are almost obscene

Yup, nothing worse than some people offensively choosing to enjoy the options provided by a free market.

Yes, Your Tax Dollars Pay for This

PBS linked my mockery of the “Global Warming Makes Cows Unhappy” report, describing it as “a lighter, unbalanced take on the study.”

I suspect they only liked it because I referred to the report’s author as “Rainbow Moonglow Rabinowitz”, so they think I’m a fellow anti-semite.

Which is a scurrilous falsehood. As everyone knows, my animosity is strictly reserved for talentless Canadian pop singers and the Irish.

13 Taxes in Obamacare

My uncle, Bruce Lefavi, a financial investor, did a radio show earlier this year outlining the 13 taxes in Obamacare and how it’s such a jobs destroyer. You can listen to it here.

I think a lot of the harmful stuff in Obamacare doesn’t go into effect until Obama is potentially out of office. It will be like his last revenge if we can’t defuse that bomb.

Every Obama Speech in One Paragraph

[High Praise! to Blackfive]

If you’ve got a business – you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen because you’ve been a little lazy over the last couple of decades and you’ve lost your ambition, your imagination and your willingness to do the things that built the Golden Gate Bridge, causing you to become bitter and cling to guns and religion and antipathy toward people who aren’t like you, and to act stupidly, just like a typical white person or our troops who are just air-raiding villages and killing civilians. Frankly, that’s why I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism, and that’s why it’s necessary for me to fundamentally transform America and spread the wealth around – just as soon as I get more flexibility in a second term.
