One cool thing about new technology is the way we can use it to mess with the minds of animals that have no chance of ever comprehending it. Personally, I like the laser pointer. I can get the cats to freak out and chase that red little dot they’ll never be able to grab (“It’s smaller than me and moving! It must die!).
The dog has wised up to it, though. If she sees the red dot moving by her, she gets startled for a moment, but then she just looks at me and the laser pointer like, “Why are you doing that, idiot?”
Well, guess what, dog: You’re the idiot! I have the power of lasers!
If I could get her to fruitlessly chase a virtual ball, that would put her back in her place.

I love lasers (actually, I use the cheap laser site that came on my AR). That way I can get my cats to excercise & I don’t have to. One of them knows that little device in my hand is what makes the red dot; she sees me reaching for the bookshelf and she goes ballistic, ready to rip.
You haven’t lived until you’ve made a cat spin in a tight little circle until she staggers like she’s drunk. It’s hillarious!
My cousin’s dog will chase flashlight beams endlessly. Putting the beam up a tree is a popular form of torture in my family.
My dog figured out the source of the laser, so he goes for that instead. Damn, he has sharp teeth!
Swap out the dog with a hippie and the soccer ball with a compact fluorescent light bulb, add a lawn chair and beer and you’ve got entertainment for hours!!!
Or… swap out the dog with me and the soccer ball with boobies, and I’ve got fun for hours….and yes the beer stays.
It’s not nice to make sport of creatures without three-dimensional vision. That would be like pushing the candidates into a lake and expecting Barack to swim and Hillary to sink.
Isn’t that a Jack Russell Terrier? I think that dog gets the game. Most wouldn’t.
You can herd chickens with lasers; the hens run away, but the roosters will occasionally stand their ground and peck at it.
How about swapping the ball for Super Delegates and the dog for Hillary? She’d be down to skirt-wearing size in no time…
Oh my gosh, I have a Catahoula Cur that’s obsessed with chasing the laser. Every evening at about sundown she starts looking for someone to take her outside so she can chase the red dot. She knows that the people control the laser, but she still has to go at least once a day (usually two or three times, depending on who’s home and what’s going on). The great thing about it is that I can exercise a dog that has the energy level of a boarder collie without much effort. Also, running her up and down the driveway keeps her nails filed down so I don’t have to have them clipped. It’s a win-win situation.
