Out of Line

I asked in the last bullet point of this post whether I was out of line, and, on second thought, I was. I based the point on what an American commander had said, but I really am not in any position to question the action of the men in the British military.
Furthermore, making humor on the whole situation is based on the assumption that nothing bad will happen to the captured sailors — that this is going to be some silly mess like when an American plane went down in the China and the Chinese government detained them (remember those carefree days?). Given the history of Iran, we can’t presume to know how this will turn out, though, and time is better spent with well-wishes for those taken hostage rather than ridiculing them.
So I apologize for the post.

  1. Frank,
You are not alone. I suspect a lot of people like me who do not know a whole lot about the current rules of engagement were wondering too.
I just assume they were ordered to not fight. Why they had that order is something that perhaps some expert in the field would be kind enough to explain to us.
Perhaps Iran was spoiling for a fight and the British did not oblige them – but that is just a guess.
    Gracious apology though. : )

  2. What are you apologizing for? There is plenty to ridicule about this situation. Like the benefit of the doubt the press and the Left give to Iran and don’t to Britain.
Maybe if Tony Blair was taking orders from college hardliners and ordering the abduction of border patrolling Iranians with the power emanating from his Members Only Jacket.
What, does everybody have to tremble in fear at Rick Moran’s thunderbolts? Cower at the thought of Captain Ed making you walk his moral plank?
It is a serious situation and we can all be pleasantly surprised if Iran acts civilized. But no matter what happens, some things aren’t going to change. Both Britain and the US will be blamed if Iran charges and executes them. Gregg Glennfield will be the first to tell you.
