So are Democrats really going to try to shove their health care bill down everyone’s throats through reconciliation? The American people have made it abundantly clear they don’t want that mess, but the Democrats seem so eager to pass the bill despite the fact that they aren’t even sure what’s in it. Considering the potential political fallout, I guess that shows the Democrats are principled — except the principle seems to be the American people are stupid and shouldn’t make their own choices, so it’s kinda hard to admire. A suicide bomber is principled, too, but again gets no admiration from me.
Personally, I don’t think they’ll be able to find fifty-one Democrat Senators willing to pull the trigger on this and be held accountable. What do you think?
I think you are right. I hope you are right. This is just ridiculous – “that’s what elections are for”. I was blown away when I heard that sound byte on the news last night.
No, but they are going to find a half-dozen clueless, spineless RINOs to do it for them.
They will because they know after they lose the majority, the Republicans will lose back without removing it. It’s a great plan, actually. The only way for it to fail is for the Republican Party to be hijacked by conservatives in the next two years, which doesn’t seem very likely.
My theory is that they won’t need to get 50 in the Senate. It seems that they’ll be voting in the House first, and I don’t see how Botox can round up the votes. But then again, she’s pretty sneaky. Watch for her to hypnotize other members.
So many of them are jumping ship and not seeking re-election that it would be a funny little prank for them to leave us with this mess. Tee hee hee. Holy crap.
As our Young President said, however, “that’s what elections are for. . . .”
What do I think? A politician is motivated by “What can I do to win election and re-election?” Only the special politicans like Barry even claim to be motivated by “history”.
I don’t think they think passing this bill will help them get re-elected.
I think anything is possible. As a pessimist, I’m going to go ahead and assume that the Democrats will manage to pass it, and that the Republicans will grit their teeth and fold like a paper suit. If I’m wrong, then I’ll get to be pleasantly surprised.
Healthcare will do for the Dems and Rinos what the Assault Weapons Ban did for them. I expect shenanigans on the leaderships part, like it passes with a double secret vote of 4 for and 96 against becuase Reid found a super secret-pass healthcare-clause somewhere in his sock drawer.
I doubt it also.
What amazes me is all the gnashing of teeth over “gridlock” and “disyfunction” in government. Folks, the brilliance of the founders is on full display for those that choose to gaze upon it. IT IS SUPPOSED to be difficult for our government to do anything. It was institutionalized to be difficult, it is designed for failure. The founders, knowing the dangers of a powerful central government, chose to put structural hobbles on. This was done so that when a slight majority of people thought it would be a good idea to take over an entire industry and bankrupt the nation in the process, the institutional hurdles to implementing that plan would be fairly insurmountable. And just in case they managed to overcome the legislative hurdles, a vibrant judiciary was to smack them back down.
If the democrats use reconcilliation, they have hot-wired the Constitution, and nothing will ever be safe again. The procedural safe-guards have been broken, a statist will be given their full run. We already know the chances that the courts will strike down something are miniscule at best.
Every silver lining has a cloud. The democrats might think that reconcilliation is a grand idea, some fine manuvering to accomplish a worthy cause. But in the process a very important circuit breaker has had a penny shoved into it, bridging the terminals. When legal safeguards are thwarted, only illegal safeguards remain. They should think very long and hard about a motivated, trained and peeved citizenry that feels that rules no longer protect them.
Idahoser nails it. They’ll pass it and, without a super-majority willing to over-ride an Obama veto, the R’s won’t be able to repeal it. And if it’s not repealed immediately, like right after the elections this fall, it never will be.
After that….well, we’re a socialist state and the Dims will have their permanent majority. Even if some of them have an R after their name.
I think it’s just too bad the great unwashed masses are still allowed to vote…they’re such children…N. Pelosi, smarter than you, Washington DC.
What do they care? They just move into lobbying or consulting and continue to draw thier retirement largess; at least until the money runs out. Hoax and chains, serfdom is almost a reality for the middle class.
I say we hunt them down after they lose the re-election and hold them personally accountable. They wont be under the umbrella of the “gubmint” then…… mwuuahahahahahahahahahahaha……….. you gotta leave the house sooner or later………….
They will try to blackmail and bribe enough to drag themselves across the finish line.
Is anyone keeping an eye on John McCain this is just his sort of moment where he comes out stabs us all in the back?
I’m with you, Frank. I don’t think they actually intend to pass it. They are creating smoke screens so that when they walk away from the bill, they can blame Republicans for their own failure going into November.
But it won’t work. They will go into this election with no major accomplishments in two years.
I think they know that this will be an irreversible win for the socialization of this country, placing the federal government in charge of a quarter of our economy.
If they do this, no administration will reverse it.
I think they’ll try and ram it though. Think of the mouse giving the finger to the eagle.
They wanted it passed by August, then by Thanksgiving, then by Christmas.
Now they’re talking about Easter.
How much longer will they beat this dead horse?
There’s nothing left but leathery scraps and pulverized bone and everyone in the country can smell it.
… and the snow keep falling.
I think they will be able to get 51 Senators to vote “Aye”.
Their loyalty and honor of United States Senators
cannot be bought, however, it can be rented.
It is less likely to pass in the House, they had to pass the Stupak amendment that stopped abortion funding to get it narrowly passed the first time.
No way it gets through there without it.
I think you miss the arrogance factor, Frank. Even after Brown’s victory the mantra is “It can’t happen to me”. Liberals are so sure the rest of us are rubes and morons that they can’t imagine we’ll have the mental acuity to remember in November what happened in April or May. Surely the “rabble” (voters) will forget by then after all they have to sleep right? Just ask little Jimmy Carvel, he’ll tell you everything you want to know about the stupidity of American voters and Trailer trash wannabe’s.
i think that any dem who loses his/her seat in the passage of the bill will find themselves rewarded with an ambassadorship, lobbyist position or some other lucrative position. also, should he/she wish to attempt to win back the lost seat in the future, the support of the DNC will be present and massive. the louisiana purchase and the cornhusker kickbacks are the just the known bribes. the promises and bribes being made behind the scenes right now would make a vulture puke.
