Ok, take 5 seconds to lick your wounds.
Good. Now are you an AmeriCAN or an AmeriCAN’T?
If you’re the former, it’s time to jump into action. This is how I think we should respond.

7) This is not a catastrophe. This is, as J.R.R. Tolkien would say, a eucatastrophe. Roberts may have decided to keep “The Precious,” but we haven’t left Mt. Doom yet.

UPDATE: If you’re feeling short on inspirational role models for what lies ahead: Legless Man Climbs Mt. Kilimanjaro on Hands
Okay, I’ve walked away from the coverage and calmed down. I think this may have been a positive. Here’s why:
Even before the ruling, Obama was saying that getting rid of the mandate wouldn’t stop enforcement of the new law (I guess he likes this one so he’ll enforce it). This would mean insane (more insane, rather) costs to insurance companies due to the need to cover everyone. This would cause companies to bankrupt eventually, and then all of us would be left at the mercy of government coverage. The only hope would be to elect Romney With this vote, the law stands but perhaps there’s room for a new legal challenge? I don’t know; that’s not even close to my area of expertise. BUT, they’ve poked the dormant-ish Tea Party into action and that will help Romney. They’ve ticked off independents and that will help Romeny. Now, our only hope is to elect Romney.
So either way, we need Romney. Probably the Senate, too. I think the Obama Admin has learned from 2010 so they’ll be nastier and sneakier this time. They’ll probably start using words like “bully” to describe the Right because that’s a new hot-button issue/buzz word. But I think SCOTUS and Obama just kicked the wrong group in the balls, and they’re about to get a nasty surprise.
I say we celebrate this historic destruction of our rights by implementing “National Buy a Gun Day”
Remember when conservatives thought John Roberts was the greatest choice ever for the SCOTUS.
Yeah, me neither.
My wife and I are friends with the president of a northwestern insurance company. He says that with this ruling, many insurance companies will be forced to sell cheap plans and they have already foreseen their bankruptcies in a couple of years. Lets hope Romney will win and repeal.
Carolyn, Glad to see you’re fired up. We must all channel the energy brought on by this attack on America’s liberties in the right direction. To quote the brilliant philosopher Ted Nugent, “The whole world sucks, but this country sucks a little less.”
There’s no better alternative country to run to. There’s no wisdom in bowing to these dictatorial powers. The only option is to allow these actions to awaken the sleeping giant and begin the real movement to take back America. Apathy has allowed liberalism/socialism to slowly chip away at the stone. Apathy on the part of conservatives must be replaced by activism, beginning today.
I’m gonna listen to my same old country-western songs, work my same old job, pray to my same old God, and do whatever I can do to get the President sent back to Chicago or Cannes or whatever other fancy place people like him flee to when they don’t want to live in a country filled with people who value their rights and freedoms.
I think we must work harder than we ever have as Americans to get this President out of the White House. Romney MUST win. Tea Party will rise as a phoenix.
If Gov. Romney doesn’t win, then the US government is going to be “taxing” everything (tangibles and intangibles). And all enforced by the very compassionate IRS.
Welcome to the new United States of Socialism.
***must go ring my cow bell of patriotism and get riled up to FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT these b**tards***
I hope that the irony of this decision being handed down just days before this country celebrates the overthrow of an oppressive over-taxing government that wasn’t representative of it’s citizens isn’t lost on anyone.
Blarg I thought the same thing!
Good to see you, Marko! So it takes SCOTUS upholding Obamacare to bring you out to the nukage nowadays. I wonder what calamity it’ll take for ussjc.
so does this make John Roberts a useful idiot or just an idiot? I guess in a way, we can blame Bush.
“Help me, Romney Wan Kenobi…you’re our only hope.”
I think my inspirational role model for today is Snake Plissken.
Given the featuring of former Gunnery Sergeant R. Lee Ermey-who is a real BTDT Marine…is anyone going to segue into the other genius ruling (Stolen Valor Act)?
I also renew my recommendation that the flag featured on the left column beneath the About IMAO header be either inverted or replaced by a Jolly Roger.
Okay I said “Obi-Wan Mitt Romney” and Mxymaster said “Romney Wan Kenobi” – which are we going with? Either way, he’s our only hope.
Bunkerhillbilly, I’m surprised everyone has missed the obvious concerning the “Stolen Valor Act.”
The Supreme Court released a ruling that stated that the “Stolen Valor Act” was too vague – wasn’t properly written – so, it must be rejected. However, their ruling on Obamacare begins by stating that the law – as written, mandating health insurance – was unConstitutional, but then went on to rewrite the law as a tax rather than rejecting it.
Both rulings released on the same day by the same court? Umm…
Something smells of coercion ey SoB?
Why isn’t aiming to misbehave number 1?
Jason – It is, but I’m a rebel and I don’t write my Top 10 Lists as countdowns 🙂
Well, if the individual mandate is a tax, then a relevant question would be: did this bill originate in the House of Representatives? If not, then the bill is uncontitutional, because the House is the chamber in which Tax bills are supposed to originate.
A truly perverse thought has been bouncing around in my mind today. Had Obamacare been overturned, Businesses would start hiring again…Economy would improve…Obama would be re-elected. Upholding Obamacare will keep the economy in the tank…Romney wins. I blame Karl Rove.
Harvey, I’m pleased as punch to see the word “eucatastrophe” here. I’m predisposed to like people who know that word.
Chris – would you still like me if I admitted that I only discovered it today by Googling “saved at the last minute trope”?
Honestly, I didn’t know there was a word for it until today. But I’m very glad there is.
Control first our internet usage, then threaten to arrest us at will without cause, then threatening our religious freedom, then threatening our cell phone usage with the ability to turn it off at any moment for his personal use, then this. Do the nuts that voted this man in not see our freedoms becoming that of a Communist Russia or China, closing fast? I’m starting to think that this coming election won’t even matter, that no matter what this man will not relinquish his power.
I think of the great comment by Padme from Star Wars, “So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause!”
“It is terrible to contemplate how few politicians are hanged. ”
