Dangerous Satire

While Harvey is on vacation, he asked if I’d write some posts here at IMAO. What an honor!

But I don’t know how to write blog posts anymore. I feel like I’m bad at this.

Anyway, as you might know, I now write for The Babylon Bee which has been getting a lot of press lately because Snopes is trying to destroy them for some reason. Kyle Mann, the editor-in-chief of The Babylon Bee, just wrote in the Wall Street Journal all about it.

So Snopes thinks The Babylon Bee is dangerous because it’s apparently tricking lots of people. Like tons of them. Maybe even a dozen. You see, it’s a well known scientific fact that conservatives can’t be funny, and thus they read anything as fact. So conservatives are being misinformed. Which makes them even conservativier. Which makes it that much harder to pass laws to give everyone everything they want for free even though that’s smart and easy to do.

So how would you stop right-wing satire? I think there should be a popup that comes up every ten seconds on right-wing satire that says “This is not true!” but I’d like to hear your ideas. Put them in the comments, and I might even read them quietly to myself.

  1. Don’t feel bad. We’ve all been Job Hoppers. Job Hoppers appreciate the benefits of capitalism more than anyone. “Take this job and shove it I was looking for a job when I found this one” is what I’ve always told them. I did always hate it though when they told me “Well don’t let the door hit you in the azz on the way out” You see, I had to actually be at the job site. Working from home never was in my cards , but I did enjoy telling Employers to “take this job and shove it” and watch their minds racing to come up with a come back was priceless…most of the time. I wonder if there’s a Job Hoppers Union? Doubt it.

  2. So how would you stop right-wing satire?

I would use the obvious method: Every time you find some right-wing satire, you go and do exactly what’s written in the story. That means it fails to be satire anymore; it’s just social commentary.

See a post about extending abortion rights past the 60th trimester? Start lobbying your representatives to make it happen. Find a video talking about resurrecting Zombie Reagan? Found a real-life Umbrella Laboratory. Read a comment suggesting conquering Canada? Time to party like it’s 1813! Except do it right this time.

Of course, before you do the things you read, you should check a reputable source to see if someone else started first; no sense in exhausting yourself on redundancy.

  3. We could have a bake sale, or maybe start a GoFundMe. I prefer the bake sale, because, while you are likely to get more money through GoFundMe, you cannot lace everybody’s brownies with laxatives that way.

With the money we collect, we can then bribe the conservative satirists to only produce proper RightThink articles, because we all know that conservatives are capitalists and all capitalists’ only motivation is the acquisition of money.

Or maybe just start eating conservative babies.

  4. I’ve got it! ?

We can ask the leftists to stop acting so ridiculously in real life so that their real actions and policy proposals won’t be so easily confused with what can only be over the top parody of real life.

  5. I’m a bit lost here, or maybe it is just me but, why do we want to “stop” right wing “Satire”? I guess to make it more palatable to the left we could just quote them verbatim and then add pointy fingers and a hearty “Ha ha ha” to it. That would convey the idea we try to get across using satire, wouldn’t it?

  6. And then there’s always the “la-la-la-la” approach:

    Jussie Smollett Jokes Declared Off-Limits
    National Review | August 20, 2019 | Kyle Smith

The Jussie Smollett story has been declared not fit for jokes. “It’s a straight-up tragedy,” declares the co-creator of a Comedy Central show, South Side, set in Chicago.

Bashir Salahuddin, a former Jimmy Fallon writer, says “The whole situation is unfortunate. Particularly for the city, there’s bigger problems for them to handle.”

    . . .

Salahuddin vows not to touch the subject of Smollett in any episode of South Side: “There’s nothing funny about it. It’s embarrassing,” he told the showbiz site The Wrap.
