Harriet Miers has withdrawn herself as a Supreme Court Nominee (only a headline now; waiting for a link)! You heard it here first (unless you saw it at some other place like RightWingNews such as I did). Could this put a damper on Fitzmas if Bush comes back by nominating an even bigger conservative to the Court than God Himself? Only time and endless speculation can tell.
I’m still rooting for this guy.
UPDATE: Here’s a link. Bush is using the request for internal documents as the excuse for her withdrawing just like many conservative pundits predicted (not me; I’m keeping my perfect prediction record of zero for zero).
UPDATE 2: Had to explain to co-workers why I suddenly jumped up and danced a jig in the hallway. Better get back to work…
UPDATE 3: Everyone seems to be calling this withdraw method the “Krauthammer Cover.” Michelle Malkin has a great roundup of reacts as always. Expect a topical IMW later today.
Now Bush can nominate Ann Coulter!!! That would be fun to watch. I’d even pay money to see that.
I think he should nominate my mother – she’s a lawyer, she’s worked on a state level appellate court for about a decade now, she’s amazingly conservative, but so sweet and lady-like that any senator should be ashamed to attack her (plus she is the master of the biting-yet-witty retort, and the guilt-trip) … plus she’s a Hurricane Katrina victim – what more could they want?
Estella:
Your mom’s got my support. As if that would help. bvut the question is “does W know her heart?”
Estella’s mom — ooh-rah! Robert Bork’s a close second.
Isn’t the Krauthammer Cover what Thor uses to protect Mjolnir from The Red Skull?
Odd that you should use a Jabberwocky reference. I just did a bunch of nonsense with it. This is particularly odd given the fact that you guys did a time-traveling podcast at the exact same time I was doing something with time-traveling ninjas. I think our minds are frighteningly similar.
Frank, my beamish boy, does that mean ’tis brillig? I’ve got a recipe for slithey toves but haven’t caught any yet. Anyway I’ll third Estella’s mom. I think Justice Estella’s-Mom has a nice ring to it!
Back in undergrad, I wrote a paper trying to translate “Jabberwocky” by relating the nonsense words to similar words in English … gyre meant spinning, like a falcon’s gyre, gibmle was gambol, uffish was oafish, etc. It was a lot of fun, but pretty pointless. Jabberwocky is just a brilliant exercise, and it was wrong in a sense to try to change it.
Mark Levin! He wrote a whole book on his judicial philosophy: “Men in Black”
Ooooohhhh, wait. No, he wasn’t too kind to them. That might make those interactions at the SCOTUS water cooler a little awkward.
But it would be one helluva ride!
