Did/Does Harry Potter Die? The Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers to the Harry Potter series, though not really any spoilers for any of the books.
Does Harry Potter Die?
Everybody wants to know if Harry Potter dies in the new book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The answer is not so simple. But here it is.

Harry Potter both doesn’t die and also does die. So the answer is No…. and Yes. I said the answer wasn’t simple. I know what you are thinking, How can Harry Potter not die and at the same time die? I’ll tell you how.
First, Harry Potter Doesn’t Die
Since Harry Potter is what is commonly referred to in literary circle as a ‘character in a work of fiction’. As such, Harry cannot donate organs (he has none), won’t have birthdays (he was never actually born) and no matter what anyone thinks or what Voldemort tries, he simply CANNOT DIE. You see Harry Potter was never technically, physically or chemically alive.
Second, Harry Potter Does Die
This is the final episode of the Harry Potter books according to the author, if you don’t know her name, I doubt you read beyond the title of this article. She has more money than the Queen of England. Anyone who has as much money as the queen of England never works. Including the Queen of England.
Since there will be no more Harry Potter books then the character will have no more adventure, save no more days, catch no more golden snitches, forget never again the spell to fix his oddly obviously unprescriptioned round spectacles (oculus repairo) nor will he be told something he shouldn’t have been told from Haggrid who will never again immediately state as much afterwards. The Hogwarts school is at an end in a “no more muggles, no spell books no more Prof. Snapes’ dirty looks” kind of way. His world is at an end. The character hence is at an end. He’s dead.
Harry Potter Could Live Again
It’s possible. One scenario, if someone a few years down the line when interviewing JKR (like you don’t know who this is) asks her, “So you quit writing Harry Potter novels 15 years ago, what have you been up to lately?” And while JKR responds, the interviewer, lapses into a coma after JKR doesn’t mention a follow up series containing the Harry Potter series characters, the interviewer’s collapsing words “More Harry Pott….terrrrrrr’
There you have it, he doesn’t die and he does die, yet could live again. Now, quit looking for spoilers and read the book like I plan to soon as I read the Half Blood Prince one.

  1. I’m pretty sure that Harry dies from a mundane mugging in downtown London. He wasn’t allowed to carry a firearm for personal protection and apparently didn’t have a wand at the ready. Poor guy.
Or maybe a theif broke in, killed Harry and took his iPod.
