IMAO got a shout out from Jonah Goldberg in a discussion of humor and politics.
People find funny what people find funny, and thus I never got into discussions of who is funnier: Conservatives or liberals? The answer, of course, is that conservatives will find conservatives funnier and liberals will find liberals funnier. That’s not to say there aren’t some differences in approaches to humor between them, but at the core their doing jokes based on what their audiences believe to be true. Since conservatives and liberals believe fundamentally different things about some issues, humor tailored for one will fall flat for the other.
Jonah makes a good point on the perception of who is in power makes a difference. It’s sad to say it, but a Democrat president and Democrat majorities in Congress would be a huge boon to this site.
Update: Here’s the audio-only version.

I think people find stuff funny that they think is funny, period. I like my funny to be witty and clever and can even laugh at a anti Bush joke if it is funny to me. I dont get offended if someone can some up with something clever and funny about something I like.
As long as no one is perfect then you will do something stupid that will be seen as funny. And I will be right there laughing at it no matter who you are or how much I like you.
Oh, I don’t know. I think liberals are pretty damn funny. Especially when they get all hyped-up about…whatever. It’s like watching a pack of wild dogs; when something gets their attention, they all bark at once & when they’re done, they just mill about & sniff each other or lie down somewhere.
Humor is subjective, but political humor is somewhat safe when delivered to a friendly audience (preaching to the choir). Both sides of American politics have their own little injokes that don’t carry over well to the other side of the aisle.
I’m a conservative myself, but I don’t have any trouble laughing with Colbert or Stewart at the conservatives. Political humor, if done right, isn’t political. I’m surprised so many liberals get mad at IMAO posts. I’ve shown it to many nutroots, and they all find this site hillarious.
I don’t know, I have found that most liberals don’t have a sense of humor or a sense of the ridiculous. Other wise Hillary, Obama, Biden and Senora Breck wouldn’t be serious candidates.
Ted Kennedy, Harry Ried and Nanny Nancy would have been laughed out of public office and Al “I AM FUNNY, **#^*)@^& IT!” Franken would be cleaning out toliets in the restrooms at the Taco Shack in Las Crusas.
Glad you got a shout out, but it sounded a bit condescending to me.
So maybe he was pulling your leg when he said “In My Asinine Opinion.”
You’re the preeminent political humorist on the net, and in print.
Because, you’re…ya know, actually funny!
Brian, I’m sure Jonah was getting a ribbing in on Frank because of that time Frank tried to steal his job. I’m not sure Jonah’s ever forgiven him for that.
(he’s probably also bitter about derb getting an interview on this awesome site but not getting one himself)
