For its upcoming cover, The New Yorker has chosen to turn innocent childhood icons into something inappropriately adult and splash them across the front of a nationally-distributed magazine:

Look, liberals, Bert & Ernie are nothing but a felt-covered parody of the Odd Couple for young people. If you insist on inserting your agenda into this, how about we insert a discussion of the unfounded rumors about Obama’s… um… discreet indulgences into an alternative lifestyle?

  1. Harry Reid, allegedly, was a homeless drifter who was once affiliated with the Manson Family and it is further alleged that Reid pays child support for children sired with Squeeky Fromme and Patricia Krenwinkle.

    According to outtakes from an early interview, Jim Henson said Bert was supposed to be a Dom/Power Top and Ernie the Bottom in the relationship, and Sufflaluppagus came about after Henson dropped some Four-Way Windowpane with Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson on the set of Easy Rider.
