A Democratic state senator from Maryland is accused of orchestrating a scheme to secretly record two critics — including a former campaign consultant — in bed together and then using the footage to threaten and silence them, according to a newly unsealed federal indictment.

Federal prosecutors say Maryland State Senator Dalya Attar, her brother Joseph “Yossi” Attar, and Baltimore police officer Kalman Finkelstein secretly filmed the pair during an intimate encounter, then used the recording to intimidate them into silence.

The 20-page indictment, unsealed Thursday, charges the trio with conspiracy, extortion, illegal wiretapping and violations of the Travel Act.

Travel Act?

Maybe they were going to show the footage in the internet across state lines?

Maybe you can’t film people in apartments, if they’re travelling?

Prosecutors allege the group targeted the consultant, identified as Victim 1, who had worked for Attar’s 2018 campaign and later supported her political rivals. Victim 2 was in a romantic relationship with Victim 1 and was married to another person at the time, the documents say.

According to the indictment, the defendants placed hidden cameras disguised as smoke detectors and a tracking device in the victims’ apartment, later reviewing footage that showed the pair in bed together.

Tracking device? Was the apartment expected to move? Perform a Travel Act?

Or were the lovers supposed to leave carrying stuff from the apartment to show where they went next? I’m not sure I get it.

Did the author mean a motion-sensitive camera, in Loo (gross) of a “tracking device”? A Dear camera?

Maryland State Senator Dalya Attar has been indicted after allegedly filming two of her rivals in bed together in an attempt to silence them.

The bombshell indictment, filed on October 23, alleged that Attar, 35, planted tracking and recording devices to catch her two critics in the act.

“Tracking” again.

Attar then threatened to release the footage of the two ‘in bed’ unless they met her demands not to speak out against her publicly, prosecutors said.

“In bed” deserves quotes?

Well, maybe, OK. I get the point.

She is facing eight federal charges of extortion and conspiracy related to the alleged plot, which prosecutors said occurred in the run-up to the 2020 and 2022 elections.

The target of her scheme was allegedly a political consultant whom Attar filmed in bed with a married man.

They still use film in Maryland?

and another man named as Kalman Finkelstein, a city police officer.

Shouldn’t there be an “h” in “city”? And Kalman’s a bitch….

According to the indictment, Attar, her brother, and Finkelstein worked with four unnamed co-conspirators to carry out the clandestine scheme.

So there are at least seven people who believe it’s worth non-zero legal risk to get Attar into a seat of significant power? Hmm.

Beth and Les Bogar of West Chesterfield, New Hampshire, spent over a year planning their trip of a lifetime to Bali.

However, their dream trip took an abrupt turn, after Beth said she was hurt during a photo opportunity with an elephant. She had just finished swimming with the elephant and riding on its back, when Beth reported that the elephant’s trainer had her come over to take photos.

Beth told News 9 that the trainer was instructing her on how to pose with the elephant. He suggested that she put her arm under the elephant’s trunk.

“When I was with my trainer, we did speak while I was riding, and he said he had been with the elephant for 24 years. He knew this elephant. I just feel as though he was guiding me and he loved my arm [[ “Me love your arm longtime” ]] get too close to his mouth and I didn’t know how close too close was,” Beth said.

Suddenly, Beth said that her arm was “pushed” into the elephant’s mouth, leaving her trapped.

“I couldn’t get my arm out. I could just hear cracking and I just started to panic,” Bogar said.

So, the mark had a few good years before that…

when defendant Robert “Black Rob” Stroud and other co-conspirators began devising a ruse to use technology to rig illegal poker games, usually Texas Hold ’em, against unwitting, wealthy players whom they called “fish” or “whales,” and who were aware that they were playing in illegal, high-stakes games, but believed these were “straight” games against other wealthy players. In reality, in many cases, every other person at the table besides them was in on the scheme.

The fish were also enticed to play by the presence of high-profile former professional athletes, known as “face cards,” with the biggest names revealed thus far to be Basketball Hall of Famer Chauncey Billups and former NBA player and coach Damon Jones.

How did it all work?

The scheme started with the technology, which was primarily inside the card-shuffling machines, which read the order in which the cards were dealt and relayed the information to an off-site operator. Sometimes the games employed X-ray tables and/or hidden cameras in the poker chip tray to assist in reading the cards. Players would also occasionally wear special contact lenses or glasses that would allow them to see marked cards.

Microsoft Teams is about to deal a heavy blow to those who like to work from home for peace and quiet. In a new feature update rolling out December 2025, the platform will track a worker’s location using the office Wi-Fi, to see whether you’re actually there or not. [[[ Shrodinger? Are you here? ]]]

From a boss’ perspective, this would eliminate any of that confusion as to where your team actually is. But for those people who have found their own sanctuary of peaceful productivity by working from home, consider this a warning that Teams is about to tattle on you.

How does it tattle?

As per the Microsoft 365 roadmap: “When users connect to their organization’s Wi-Fi, Teams will automatically set their work location to reflect the building they are working in.” And the location of that worker will apparently update automatically upon connecting.

Duh. I — quite plausibly — assumed they had this capability back in the ’80s.

So now “Back Room at One-Eye’d Pete’s” suddenly isn’t a valid work address?
