Yes, but helicopter = TV, TV = Cameras, Cameras = Trouble if you are stupid enough to do something that blatant. This turd will probably get off because of this, whether he was injured or not. Next time, a slow knee to the kidneys will suffice to show him who is boss.
I’ve seen pics taken from the video, it’s too far away to really see what was going on. Can you see the suspect’s hands? No. Can you see his teeth? No.
Some of the worst fights I ever had were after the suspect was down on the ground, trying to get the cuffs on.
I’ve got bite scars over twenty years old, I’ve had them try to get my gun and when the twins were born I was in the hospital because of an unarmed suspect. Had there been a ‘concerned citizen’ with a video camera at that last mentioned fight I probably would have gone to jail myself, notwithstanding the five broken ribs, the gouged eye and cracked skull, the broken arm and the kicked gonads. Yes, I hit him with my stick and, yes I kept hitting him a few times after he was quiet.
There used to be a contract between crooks and LEOs. Fight with the cops and get a beating. People hardly ever fought with us, they knew what they’d get. My first ten years on the job I only had to fight a suspect when he was full of that sh, um, stuff. Drugs or drunk. Now it’s fight with the cops and get rewarded. Every two-bit crook in the country is fighting.
What’s the plan for when there is nobody willing to take on the crooks in LA? It’s coming. Who is going to risk jail to put a car thief away?
Here’s an idea. Get a bunch of people who don’t like engineers. Give them video cameras and the power to ruin your career, take your pension and even lock you up if they don’t like the way you solve a difficult engineering problem. Give them unfettered access to where you work. Have much of the public jump on every decision you have to make, especially the ones that look funny from a distance, when viewed on TV in a nice safe living room.
Ain’t nothin’ funny about this, Frank. Right this minute, someplace in America there’s an LEO in the emergency room, injured by an unarmed suspect. Right this minute, in the exercise yard of a prison, a bunch of assholes are on the ground practicing the moves to take down an LEO.
Pick a side.
Regardless of the sex, race, creed, nationality of the perp or the cops, an car thief who leads cops on a high speed chase deserves to have his ass beaten.
I thought that happened in California. Why would I be concerned with something that happened in a foreign country?
I was in discussion about Rodney King with my father (a former California Highway Patrolman) and he essentially said the same thing as Peter above. You look at that King video again and note how many times the idiot DID NOT LISTEN to the cops.
It’s not a race, creed, color thing. It’s an ignorance thing.
Cops have a hard enough time without having to worry about some idiot with a camera. All the cops I know are quite compassionate and respectful. However, when you DO NOT heed what they are saying the compassion and respect quickly go away.
Cops HATE high speed chases because more often then not innocents get hurt. Anyone who decides to ‘rabbit’ from the law needs their ass handed to hiim…HARD.
They need to use one of my favorite lines from ‘The Blues Brothers’ when dealing with these ass-clowns:
“Use of unnecessary violence in apprehension of the Blues Brothers has been approved.”

Cops have one of the toughest jobs out there. I certainly wouldn’t want to have to put up with the crap that they do on a daily basis. When you have all of that adrenaline pumping, it’s gotta be hard to not react when some dumbass does something, well, dumb. Still, I couldn’t resist the joke.

i agree that anyone, anycolor, should get their ass fed to them if they run from the law. the bangers and the thugs know that they can get away with anything cuz the cops have to fear repercussions from a society ignorant of the dangers of keeping their couch judging ass safe.
A flashlight/nightstick beating should be official standard operating procedure for motorists who try to run from the cops.
Every officer involved in the chase should be obligated to take a swing at the driver. The longer the chase, the more cops involved, and the harder the beatdown.
Of course, while the chase is on, he should also be fair game for police marksmen. In some cases, a few shots fired would be safer than allowing the felon to continue to flee.
I used to think that high-speed pursuits were fun to watch until I, my wife and two daughters were nearly hit by some asshat in a Ford F-250 who was running red lights trying to evade the police.
So cops are street judges? Yes, cops have it tough, but on the other hand, it is naive to assume all cops act properly to all situations.
Condone too much of that, and NOBODY will respect them – only fear them. Cameras are becoming very common. Cops had better adapt – they should be wearing their OWN cameras. In this case, they could then show exactly when the man started fighting and therefore had to be subdued by the repeated beating.
Stupid wussy criminals
The news loves cops chasing people here in LA. They will interrupt anything (except Lakers games) to show a car chase. I wonder at times if they pay people to go on a car chase just to get ratings up again. What with all the Bush bashing, they need something to keep people watching.
They don’t use spike strips or other means to stop cars. Instead they will just drive ahead and stop the traffic, so the speeder can be on his marry way.
So, Who Me?, do you think crime would go up or down if criminals actually feared the cops?
