Yes, he was. I consider him one of the last real ones. And the sound you hear is him spinning in his grave over what his party has become.

one of my favorite Truman quotes, when
someone once yelled out, give em hell Harry, he said back I don’t give anybody hell. I give em the truth and they think it’s hell!
He’d have been a shoe-in for ‘The Big Rock’ if he’d have let MacArthur take the fight to the Chinese.
Unfortunately, I believe this is where JF’nK got his first clue on how to flip-flop.
Big Onions for dropping in on Hiroshima and Nagasaki though.
Yep, he was a Democrat. And also the only man to have ever actually nuked anyone (and quite deservedly so, in my book).
Back in the 40’s the Democrats still had quite a bit of backbone and were basically decent folk; aside from that “New Deal” crap their positions were pretty sharp. It wasn’t until they embraced southern racism in the 60’s and collectivism in the 70’s and 80’s that things got really bad.
The sad part is that there are still good people in the party, like Joe Lieberman and Zell Miller. But the party itself has become so intertwined with leftist nutjobs and Hollywood elitism that it’s now easier to try to get the worthwhile Democrats to switch sides than it is to get them back in control of their own house.

I really like the Truman theory. If we had subscribed to that, methinks we’d have two more skyscrapers.
People just assume ‘diplomacy’ means tiptoeing through tulips. I prefer to think it means reserving your proper place in the grand scheme of things. [If that made any sense] Our diplomatic theory is too concerned with other people’s feelings. I’m not saying that there’s a lot of random bombing that needs to happen (Only selective bombing. But a lot of it.), but we are the biggest f-ing power in the world, and since Earth isn’t a democracy, we shouldn’t be run by other nation’s vote. We are King of Earth, not President.
It’d be kinda scary to know that Bush’s actions were (somewhat) controlled by the votes of third world countries, wouldn’t it?
It’s almost like he would have moved some sort of violent activity to the Middle East so all their nut jobs could fight and die there instead of over here. What an interesting idea. Sure wish we could learn to do that these days…
Democrats are good peple! why cant you understand? democrats did a lot of good things like fix the broken economy and bring us good things like ocmputers and internets! Gerge Bush just stole our jobs for enron and hallburton and he blew up innocent people in iraq. why do you hate democrats? democrats love people and don’t blow them up. democrats want us to be like france and be nice to people. don’t you know?!
Truman was a LOYAL democrat. Those are in short supply today. Somebody noted that Miller of Georgia and Lieberman of New England are cut from that cloth, and I concur.
Hmmmm. Now that you think about it, JFnKerry is following Truman’s suggestion. Kerry flip-flops more than a mackeral on a deck, lies about his wounds, dumps one rich wife for a richer wife, steals dimes from blind beggars and apologizes for NONE of it.
Aobey’s tone sounds so much like one of a child with Down Syndrome I can only assume he/she’s being sarcastic…if not…then God bless you, my dear child.
El Jefe, what do you mean by “the big rock”?
Sandor,
The Democrats were the party of southern racism from long before the civil war. It was only in the 60s that they actually started pretending that they weren’t racists (“Look! We wanna give you ners money and jobs and stuff! We’re not racists! And we all know y’all ners are too dumb to move up in the world by yourselves, so you better vote for us so we can help you do it, Toby and Bobo!”) and thus started soaking up the black vote like sponges. I doubt JFK (as in the one who diddled Marylin Monroe) had ever even seen a black person before he met MLK Jr.–except maybe his butler or chauffer. And LBJ, a “conservative” Southern Democrat from Texas, was just as much a racist segregationist as anyone else in his party before he signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 into law (which wouldn’t have passed without 3/4 of Republican support, compared to less than 2/3 of Democrats). Revisionist history and historical lies, that’s all any of it really is.
I’ll refrain from saying now what I think about Martin Luther King, Jr. turning around and endorsing the same party that had spent over a century oppressing his people in the Election of 1960. Instead all I’ll say is this: I’m certain King rolls over in his grave every time Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, or some other jackass Uncle Tom champions affirmative action in his name. King dreamed of a future in which “the Negro” would be given equal consideration in jobs and education because he/she was the most qualified, not because some employer/dean had a quota he/she needed to fill.
Oh, I agree that the Democrats never did a damn thing to free slaves or bring about genuine civil rights changes; history plainly shows that it’s the Republican party that takes the tough stand against racism.
But the Southern Democrats of the 60s were the ones most actively working against civil rights for blacks, so I mentioned them specifically. Personally, I think the “Champion of Equality” stance adopted by the modern Democratic Party is one of the greatest snowjobs ever pulled; 40 years ago almost half of them voted against civil rights legislation (when, as you mentioned, over 80% of Republicans voted for it).
And the Republicans are the racists? Oh, please.

So what was that bombing in Kosovo by the head Clintonista?
Oh yea, that was to divert everyone’s attention from the “wad of Bill’s” that got left in Monica’s dress.
Personally, I’m for bringing Truman back to life ala Frankenstein and having him run against whoever the 2008 Democratic candidates are. Can you IMAGINE what Truman (or even JFK…or even LBJ….) would say if they saw Lord Ketchup and friends? Truman gave us the CIA for goodness sake, can a Democrat get any cooler than that? He also called Stalin a “son of a bitch”, which scores huge points for its sheer “lack of nuance”. As for Zell, he’s a great guy, I’d cheerfully elect him (He’s probably more conservative-seriously-than Bush, at least from a fiscal standpoint)if he were to run in 2008. Frank, you should have “FrankenTruman” and ghosts of past CIA agents/Directors go after Dean. If for no other reason than to hear the bloodcurdling “Yeeeeeeeeeargh!” as the angry ghost of Dulles kills him.
Oy. You celebrate a man who dropped the atomic bomb and killed hundreds of thousands of civilians, after the Japanese had offered to surrender. Aren’t you aware of all the socialist garbage he pulled during his administration? http://mm.mises.org/mp3/Pres/Pres7.mp3
While Truman was most certainly a good (underestimated)leader, I have to say that offensive actions work best when you have found holes in your enemies’ defense.
Other than that, offense puts the warrior at a disadvantage of being vulnerable to those at defensive positions.
When on the offense, attack only after developing a plan, and calculating potentials of gain/loss relevant to each avenue of invasion.
I am aware that he was a socialist, and as an Ayn Rander, I’m not happy with that. BUT I’m trying to look at the good side….his version of socialism was still very, very bearable compared to what its evolved into now, AND he founded the CIA (thats Loki’s equivalent statement to “I served in Vietman!”….you will hear it over….and over….and over:D.) Democrat! Founded CIA! Democrat…yet founded CIA! The bane of all hippies, everywhere! The sheer, unmitigated bastion of American influence overseas! The evil paramilitary tentacle of the “Military Industrial Complex”(TM) (I sound derisive, but I’m not, I promise you…I get bombarded with conspiracy theory crap weekly in college, just having a swipe at it). SURELY that counts for something:D (Okay, Okay, I admit it, I saw the Recruit and now I want to date that little redheaded chick, I’m hooked, I admit it!) 😀 😀 😀
Sorry that last post was mine-the long one lol. In the midst of the verbal epilepsy on my part I forgot to add the name…not that anyone can doubt which posts are mine and which aren’t. The others don’t make your eyes bleed and beg for death.
“Gerge Bush just stole our jobs for enron and hallburton and he blew up innocent people in iraq. ”
No one ‘stole’ my job in 2002. The company I worked for closed down because they could make more money via the non-unionized company they spun us off from. No job is ‘stolen’ from you. You are not entitled to a job, similarly a company is not entitled to employees. Sorry to nit pick, but this entitlement line of thinking really irritates the hell out of me.
Agreed on the entitlement thing Jenno, don’t move to Oregon:). We can’t even pour our own gas here (I wish, wish wish wish wish that that was a lame joke…..its not).
Leftist like to believe that job outsourcing is a Republican evil; while it in fact is a reality of economic globalization, and will happen no matter who is the President or who is in Congress, the House, or Senate.
Remember lobbyists don’t discriminate with who they court in political office. The best way to insure that Americans have mfg. or related jobs is to BUY AMERICAN and/or lobby against outsourcing of American jobs. But leftists are too stupid to organize efficiently around any cause, so all that happens is a big whine and groan festival to bring “social problems” to mass attn. w/out offering any realistic solutions.
Oh yeah Clinton reaped the benefits of the end of the Cold-War (which ended from policies that Reagan and Bush #41 put into place. Gorbachev gets credit too for realizing how stupid of a concept collective society was) and any economist or econ. student (or 10 year old) will tell you that the end of any war creates fiscal growth and stability in the nation that wins. Too bad that Bubba neglected our economy and dumped what remained of it on Bush #43. Tie that in with the 9/11 tragedy and Bush #43 has done a great job of preserving what was left of our economy and fostering massive growth. Let’s give the man 4 more years…
I live elsewhere in OR actually-not Portland-but I can see where you’d say that Joshua, not like theres any other significant town here anyway. As for the gas thing, I hate to say this but I DO like the smell. Too many trees and flowers in town.
