Apparently Markos Moulitsas now has a column in Newsweek. This raises some questions: Newsweek is still around? Who reads it? Haven’t people heard about the internet? Really, a new magazine that comes out once a week — how’s that of any use to anyone?
And then why Kos? Is America really clamoring for the political analysis of the dim bulb who runs a chat site full of loons? Instead of column from him, wouldn’t another car ad be more interesting? I mean, if he’s going crazy angry and screaming “Screw ’em!” he’s entertaining in a freakshow kinda way, but otherwise what’s the point?
And, according to Kos, Newsweek also hired a conservative that will make “heads explode” on the liberals side. Who is that? Are they going for an equally trite and uninsightful conservative known for frequent bursts of extreme emotion, or are they going for a complete opposite so it will be someone as conservative as Kos is liberal and as bright as Kos is dull? Does anyone like that even exist?
So who do you think the mystery conservative columnist is who Newsweek hired? My guess is Andrew Sullivan.

Moe Lane e-mailed about every conservative blogger he could think of and all confirmed it wasn’t him who got the job. He even has confirmation it’s not me, which is too bad because I would have wrote a column people would have been talking about for years (I assume I wouldn’t have gotten past one).
Well, let’s see. Newsweek probably thinks that Paul Krugman is conservative, so I’ll guess Krugman.
I’m guessing either Andrew or the other “only true conservative”, John Cole of Balloon Juice.

Anne Coulter makes heads explode regularly – plus she would raise circulation just by being on the cover in her classic black dress!
No way – Newsweek would never get Andrew Sullivan. (And, Andrew Sullivan would never do Newsweek but that is beside the point) It’ll be some RINO like Michael Bloomberg or John McCain or they’ll go for the full Internet Poll Crowd and get Ron Paul.
It’d be hard to find a Conservative as trite and uninsightful as Markos so it must be the other way around, a conservative as bright as Markos is dull, in other words they are getting Mark Steyn. Then again, Mark Steyn is to good for them so probably not.
The question is not who the conservative columnist is. The question is who does Newsweek think is a conservative columnist.
Bearing that in mind, and for the record, my guess is Arianna Huffington. She’s about as conservative as they can stand.

My guess: Vladmir Lenin, as channeled by John Edwards. Although, that would probably be so far right for Newsweek that they would have to prepare themselves for the cries of “Nazi” (from their regular writers and most of the editorial staff).

Markos from Daily Kos is an excellent writer. He’s very well informed on the issues. He is a good choice for a Newsweek column. There are conservatives who are great writers as well (none from this blog) so it will be interesting to see who gets selected.

You’re kidding right? Markos “Screw Them” Moulitsas is a talentless hack.
You need to remember that Mucinex is using the progressive definitions of the words “excellent”, “informed”, and “good”. In human English, the appropriate words are “infantile”, “ignorant”, and “horrible”.

Maybe he evolved or grew up or something… because inciting a bunch of hypocrites to blame everything on everyone else without actually coming up with a single good alternative is disingenuous, at best. Hell, most of the shit on his blog is written by a whole host other people, most of whom are better writers than Marky Markos, none of whom can compare to the wit & style of the mere comment regulars here, much less the contributors.

Jonah Goldberg brought up a good point – Markos is the same guy who’s said he doesn’t care at all about political debates over ideology, all he cares about is winning — how insightful can his columns possibly be?

Sully or George Will? Two excellent choices, but I do have to agree that, as a senior editor over at the Atlantic (i.e. a competitor), Sully’s a pretty long shot.
And as for Steyn, that column in NR is bi-weekly, since the magazine is, in WFB’s words, a political fortnightly. Just on a factual note.
God, this is just despicable. They give that psychotic a column in Newsweek, because why? He represents the opinion of our enemy? Nice to have an outsider’s prospective? OBL can’t email in a column on a steady enough schedule?

Do you go to a public school or publicly funded university? If so its called a lawsuit, since An Inconvenient Truth has been disproved and is nothing more than political propaganda its a violation of the publics trust.
Frank, if you were selected I’d have to buy a copy – and that would be a first for me. Newsweak – last I heard they were searching toilets for Korans. Looks like they found something else in the toilet and gave him a column.
It’s a marketing ploy. They want to add a couple more readers, and Kos and his mother will do that. It will double their readership.
No big deal, really. A socialist propaganda rag nobody reads or respects anymore struggles with the fact that they’re no longer known as “the most liberal” media outlet. So, they hire the idiot that out-lefts them. Who really cares?

Yes, indeed, I do go to a publicly funded university (Mississippi State University, the largest land grant institution in the Southeastern United States, to be exact). I am seriously considering filing a complaint with the school, as much of what I have read has indicated that “An Inconvenient Truth” is nothing more than a convenient lie for Al Gore to furthur his political agenda. The more I think about it, the more pissed I get.

I’m not sure what this will do, but this way – in some alternate universe, there will be a doppleganger of me that will vaguely give a shit.

For a minute I felt like I was taking crazy pills.
He now has the Newsweek subscriber list and can begin blighting their lives with the same gusto as he blighted the life of one Neb “Ned” Lamont, a harmless dry-cleaning supply salesman from suburban CT. Neb still awakens with a start one of twice a week to see Markos grinning stupidly in at the Lamont family at breakfast. Restraining orders have proven quite useless.
