Cultural Differences

With the release of Roman Polanski by the Swiss, I’ve noticed there is a growing cultural difference between America and Europe: We don’t like evil, but Europe feels it’s just too sophisticated to care about such things.

French culture minister (is it his job to make sure the Eiffel Tower is extra tall and impressive?) said of the Polanski release, “Now is the time for appeasement. [When isn’t it the time for appeasement with the French? -Ed.] The painful past, the rich personality, the unanimously admired works of Roman Polanski all find their place again.” See, Polanski made movies that, while no box office successes, smart people were supposed to like, which made them important… much more important than child rape.

In America we don’t get that attitude. Artsy-fartsy directors are a dime a dozen… and we probably weren’t going to watch those films anyway. What we do like watching is having a child rapist flung and shot with a cruise missile… along with anyone who objects to harsh punishments for child rapists.

So what do we do with Europe? Same thing we’ve been doing for a while: Wait for them to continue to wither and die and hope they leave us an inheritance.

  1. Wait for them to continue to whither and die and hope they leave us an inheritance.

I’d be perfectly fine with that, but they’re not just dying; they’re letting radical muslims take over their countries. We don’t need all of Europe to be a terrorist breeding ground in addition to the Middle East.

  2. I guess when buggering is the norm, child buggering becomes the next step that we are in for here in the US! You know, all the intellectuals and really smart people say we should be like Europe and all…

  3. Feel free, Europe, to call me when you come up with something even close to this.

Of course, that won’t happen soon. The days of the Spitfire and Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma are long gone. Europe is but a fading relic while America’s political “leaders” speed forward, wishing to demonstrate their ability to copy the stupidity of their parents.

  4. Clearly, if you make a movie the left likes you can commit heinous crimes with impunity. So, what movie do I have to make to get away with beating the crap out of several democrat politicians?

  5. eh, MarkoMancuso, don’t label the UK as European. If Polanski was dumb enough to fly to London you bet you’d get him shipped to the US faster than a retreating French army. The fact is that he makes sure never to leave continental Europe.

  6. Bingo, I’m sorry, but Great Britain appears to be quite close to the continent known as Europe. However, the key is that British leaders have not been too different from the socalist twit leaders on the mainland.

  7. Charles Manson wanted to be a musician/actor, I say cut the guy some slack, he’s an Artist!. Sharon probably wanted an abortion anyway, they just went a little overboard. I’m sure Roman would like to see him free, right?

  8. #5 – MarcoMancuso, I clicked on your link and received the following warning from my virus filter:

“This web page is used for stealing credit card numbers, PIN-codes, passwords and other personal data.”

Maybe you could just describe what “this” was?

  9. @4of7: Are you being sarcasmic? I can’t tell. Marco’s link was a video of the closing scene of John Ford’s “The Searchers” with John Wayne walking into the sunset. Oh, and it had Natalie Wood in a very cute squaw outfit, too.

  10. hhmm, sexy “squaw’s” I feel like that market has been untapped in creating racial harmony. I think we should pass a law that every movie have a sexy squaw in every scene. Lets make asinine racial quotas work for us!

  11. Bullet Ants! How the crap do people live in South America?

I just assume Roman Polanski and his leftist friends live rich and comfortable and safe all their lives. Let them get to judgment day with a nice long backlog of unpaid for sins.

  12. #16 – Burmashave,
thanks for the description – that was a good movie. (sigh)
But I really did get a warning from my virus filter.
It almost never does that; I guess it was just ‘one of those things’.
