Only 12% of the general public would describe themselves as “progressive,” but most people seem to be unsure what it means so that’s better that the term “liberal.” Liberals ruined the term “liberal” (which was a good term; I think “classical liberal” describes my politics better than “conservative”) by getting it associated with their arrogant, douchey politics so that “liberal” now means to most people “utterly useless idiot who thinks he’s smart and should force his ideas on everyone else,” so they tried to shed that term for a new one — “progressive” — and are slowly corroding its meaning too until eventually it will be toxic as well. Conservatives, on the other hand, took a term that wasn’t that great (why would you want to be a conservative when currently the status quo sucks?) and made it good by association. Now “conservative” just means to most Americans “someone with common sense.”
So next time instead of liberals taking an actual word people might want to use for other purposes and corrupting it, maybe they can just call themselves a completely made up term instead. Like “muckadoo” or something. That would be considerate of them, but then considerate of the population at large isn’t very progressive.
Jonah Goldbergs “Liberal Fascism” will show you that the first term for Nazi, Stalinist, and Maoist type American sympathizers was “progressive.” When that term became so tainted and repulsive they switched to “liberal.” That they are now trying to switch back to progressive is hilarious/sad/pathetic. Good thing for them liberal lasted just long enough for the people who lived under them in the 1920-40’s as adults are dead or dying.
Based on precedents about the year 2040 the left will run around saying “I am no progressive I am a liberal.” Or maybe they will find a new third word they are able to use but I would not bet on it.

shiggx is right. Progressive is just the orignial label they took, as in “progressing towards world domination” or “progrssing to take your life over” or “progrssing to screw things up royally”.
I can think of new names, but I am a Christian and such language should not be used, unless you are a drill sargent for the United States Marines.

Muckadoo has a nice ring to it, but it makes it far too easy for reporters trying to be clever to headline their articles about liberal conventions as “Muckadoo About Nothing”.

During the festivities in Southeast Asia we used to depersonalize the enemy troops by calling them “gomers”. It was much easier to talk about “hosing down some gomers” than it was to say that you had killed some enemy personnel. Just out of nostalgia, I nominate “gomer” as a euphemism for “liberal”. BUT, the time for hosing them down has not arrived, so maintain “weapons tight”.
How about Care Bears? That’s really what it all comes down to. They care. They care a lot. They care more than you. They care more than me. They care more than anyone else could possibly care in the whole wide world.

They like words like “progressive” because the people they seek to rule don’t know what the word means and a good many of them couldn’t find it in a dictionary, that is if they even have a dictionary in their home or office and if, and this is a big if, they can even spell it. We have become a nation of unlearned, unread, unremittingly dull and bore-like dullards. Why?
I’m not entirely sure but TV has a great deal to answer for, as do movies and then there’s the educational apparatus. Most though I believe that the liberals who run the Demoncratic party and teachers union are at the heart of this debacle. How better to control the population then to keep them dumb, drunk, high and or sated? That way they’ll never bother to ask troubling questions like, “how are we going to pay for this”, “why aren’t we doing something about unemployment”, “where is the transparency you promised”.
And many of us fall for it, every time. Remember that when you sit down to watch your favorite mind numbingly lame, stupid and offensive TV program, or not, you still have choices…………..for now.
