Which is a horrifying notion. I remember having to use Yahoo before Google was invented. You were lucky if what you were searching for was in the top 50 results.
But the Bing owl is staring right at me Jimmy. He’s looking around my room now. It’s creeping me out! 🙂
There’s also startpage.com which uses google results and claims not to track your IP. It doesn’t bias results, which is both good and bad.
The only way to stop the bribing of government is to reduce the power of government so companies are forced to bribe each of us individually. i.e. capitalism.
Yeah, “don’t be evil” rung hollow once it turned out they’re liberals who typically don’t believe evil even exists. Apparently, they just liked the way it sounded. Kinda like the words that come out of Obama.
On the other hand, given what Obama’s done for his supporters with Obamacare, does Google really want any help from him?
Google + government help = Yahoo! search

And the fact that Google “directs” your search in ways that it finds useful isn’t a problem?
@3 – Not if it’s also directed in a way that *I* find useful. Which Google does for me, so I’m happy with it.
Mostly I use it for finding reference links for very obscure references. It’s excellent for that.
Yes, I’m aware that Google execs are a bunch of hippies desperately in need of face-punching, but at least their product works.
@4 Agreed.
Even on websites that have their own “searches” I google what I want with their site as the domain. Google is just awesome at searching.
I use Bing a lot now. It doesn’t track your IP address. Plus, it helps Microsoft from going bankrupt. 🙂

Yeah, but the Bing owl is wise old bird, Fly, like its users. Unless, of course, you’re a young bird, in which case, you’re beyond your years!
I have to admit that I no longer believe Google’s motto, “Do no harm” actually applies to Google.
@8 – “Do no harm” is from the doctors’ Hippocratic oath. Google’s motto is “don’t be evil”. They’re perfectly ok with harm.
Google was robbed!

I sit corrected. It’s been a long day.
Now, now, don’t jump into Snake River Canyon. Don’t be Evel.
