Dean Barnett, who was one of my favorite bloggers until he recently left Townhall, has an article in the Weekly Standard that is perhaps the best explanation I’ve seen so far of Ron Paul’s inexplicable popularity among crazy people. It also includes some nice photoshops that illustrate his point nicely. Go read it and come back here to make fun of Ronulans in the comments.
I think people who think Ron Paul is a great candidate should be removed from society and put into forced labor camps where they can make us wallets (as prescribed by the Constitution). What do you think?
(hat tip Conservative Grapevine)

I think they should be forced to make us…a shrubbery!
Haha, you sad, sad people. Go on denigrating Ron Paul if you like. Unfortunately, he is the only republican candidate that stands a chance in the general election.
Stop living in fear and make America great again.
Have you ever read the writings of Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence and greatest founding father? Ron Paul is almost perfectly in line with all of his positions, much closer than any other Republican candidate Does that make Thomas Jefferson an anarchist? Ron Paul is attempting to become president, and work within the government, this is a far cry from advocating no government. He is advocating the rule of law and the Constitution. It is such a shame that conservatives can’t see this.
Wow, it took the Ronulans 36 minutes to start their assault. Getting sloppy, kiddies!
Wow, only two posts… That’s got to be record time.
I think that the Ronulans need to take a better look at who their bedfellows are… http://www.muslimsvoteronpaul.com, the neo-nazi guys that he takes contributions from… the only reason Ron Paul gets ANY contributions is because even the Democrats are wise enough to not take money from these people, and we all know how discriminating Hillary is!
I like the idea of a shrubbery… but one that’s not too big, and not too expensive.
I’m sure you’re right. HRC will probably have us in internment camps making shoes out of Republican Neocons.
I agree, the Ronulans are slipping.
Joe B.: If you think Paul stands a chance in the general election, you probably thought the Xtreme Football League was a good idea, too. Stop deluding yourself, even if you pick up all the fringe elements of society, they’re still THE FRINGE, and therefore have no possibility of overcoming the whole. Ron Paul does not appeal to rank and file conservatives, and he never will.
PK: Yes, actually, I have read a good bit of Jeffersonian writings, seeing as I had a history teacher at West Point who was in love with the guy. However, Paul is no Jefferson…hell, Ron Paul ain’t even Millard Fillmore, people. His isolationist foreign policy position has no place in the Twenty-First Century, and, God forbid, if he were elected, our country would definately go back two hundred years (Note to the Paulbots: This is a bad thing).
Ronulans make fine wallets, and even better lampshades…
I don’t know that I’d want a walet made out of Duct tape.
Hey Joseph, great post. Theres only one problem, you’re trying to reason with a Ronulan. Bad idea! Thats like trying to teach Christopher Reeve to tap dance. Your heart might be into it 100%, but at the end of the day, you’re just wasting your time. Let them ride the Dr. Paul Express. They don’t know what you and I know. It may be a lot of fun to ride, but just around the corner, the tracks are going to run out.
“Ronulans make fine wallets, and even better lampshades…”
Yes, I’m sure they do. Their supporters at Stormfront doubtlessly are sharing the proper techniques that were passed down to them….
I’m not embarrassed to admit that when I first heard about Ron Paul, I liked the guy. He hit all my big domestic-issue buttons – fiscal and constitutional conservative, pro-states’-rights, MYOB on lifestyle issues – and generally was known as a stand-up kind of guy. Then, though, there were the deal-breakers:
1. If you don’t see the value in hunting down terrorists in their pig-sties, you don’t get my vote.
2. Israel is a key ally and the only – ONLY – democratic and free-market society in the middle east. If we abandon Israel, we abandon part of ourselves.
3. Yeah, I know, the guy has no control over who gloms onto his campaign. Or does he? He’s allowed his campaign to be hijacked and run off the rails by crazies. If he allows this to happen to his campaign, what kind of president would he be?
So, I shake my head and hurl invective at the candidate that could have been.
Thanks for that, Clay S. I know, reasoning with a Ronulan is about like trying to reason with a liberal, but I can’t help but try. I’ve never bought the phrase “agree to disagree.” If you believe in something strongly enough, you want other people to be as enlightened as you are. Seeing as how there are only two options for persuasion in an argument (reason and force) and I am not in a position to use force, I must attempt to use reason…despite the fact that they probably won’t listen and I will probably soon be implicated in the attacks on September 11 by the Ronulans.
Mad Insomniac: Great comment!
Don’t take my word for it. I’m guessing you don’t like his foreign policy. But he’s in good company:
I do sincerely wish that we could take our stand on a ground perfectly neutral and independent towards all nations — Thomas Jefferson
The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations, is…to have with them as little political connection as possible. –George Washington
Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake; since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government. –George Washington
America has abstained from interference in the concerns of others, even when the conflict has been for principles to which she clings….She goes not abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.” – John Quincy Adams
We have already given, in example, one effectual check to the dog of war, by transferring the power of declaring war from the Executive to the legislative body, from those who are to spend to those who are to pay. — Thomas Jefferson
I opposed the right of the President to declare anything future on the question. Shall there or shall there not be war? — Thomas Jefferson
“Ron Paul is almost perfectly in line with all of his [Jefferson’s] positions, much closer than any other Republican candidate”
The “almost” must be his divergence from Jefferson’s love of having Marines kill islamic terrorists (see: Barbary pirates). Which is kind of a dealbreaker for most conservatives…
The conservatives should be more concerned with the bad economic policies of the current crop of Republican leaders than with terrorists who have no chance of bringing down America. Bad economic policy is capable of bringing us to our knees. The prescription drug benefit put is in more danger in the long term than Osama Bin Laden could have ever hoped to accomplish. Are Republicans really concerned with keeping us safe? Then why do they advocate this economic ignorance that will eventually catch up with us?
Bush has expanded government more than Clinton was able to. And that isn’t even counting the war. Why do you accept this? What happened to the Republicans? Aren’t they supposed to stand for fiscal responsibility?
Only 17 comments after two hours? The Paulbearers must be getting weary. Perhaps the reality that people won’t vote for you just because you spam online polls is finally sinking in.
Speaking of online polls, if you’re going to devote endless hours of work to anything in a political campaign, why online polls? They’re about the least effective way to get your message across.
The posting gets quick posts because it shows up at the top of technorati. You haven’t addressed my question. Why do the Republicans accept this fiscal insanity? Bush added 8 trillion dollars in entitlements with the prescription drug benefit to what was already a 15 trillion dollar underfunding. What are you people smoking?
I overheard a couple Ronulans talking yesterday. (No, it wasn’t in their mother’s basement, but yes, it was on a college campus.) They were gleefully rubbing their hands together and talking about how much money he got on Guy Fawkes Day. Then they said it showed how much support he had, and he was going to win all the primaries because nobody votes in those anyways.
They looked at me funny when I couldn’t stop laughing at them.
What’s a matter? No more smartass comments?
Does the letter of Marque and Reprisal ring a bell? Does the yea vote of RP for going into Afghanistan ring a bell? If not, then you’re being disingenious. Letters of Marque and Reprisal are Congress’ Constitutional tool for taking care of stateless combatants (terrorists). Being against pre-emptive war is not the same as being isolationist. I would also argue that peaceful dealings with other nations has more of a place in the 21st century than ever before.
Paulbearers… I like that. It really signifies how they continue to carry on his dead stinky campaign.
I find it very interesting that no one will answer my point about the fiscal insanity of the Republicans.
Deal with your own insanity before pointing fingers.
You have nothing intelligent to say about it because there is no defense. Bush made great leaps towards socialism. I wish you would take a moment to think about that and realize that it is a very serious problem and that the Republicans are taking us in the wrong direction.
Well, I am just blown away by your persuasive arguments. Very convincing guys.
Lol, Paulbearers arguing with themselves! One could almost manke a ytmnd with this!
This is embarassing, you guys are in denial.
Hey PK, nobody is going to answer you because no matter what we say, you’ll have some wise-ass comment from your “if they say this-respond with this booklet” and another thing, do you even know what kinda blog this is, SATIRE! We make fun of all democrats. (yes Ronnie is a democrat at heart) I happen to agree with some of his views, but others are so out there theres no way he’s going to get elected. I’ll bet anyone $100.00 a piece, right here right now! He will not be president….any takers????
he’s a wacko. Hey dear Ronin, I did a little “what would the POTUS nominees look like if they were comic characters at my blog. spacekicker.com. You might get a chuckle.
The thing with Ron Paul is that his politics are old school, but the problem is we don’t live in an “old school” world. Isolationism will just call the problems (ie islamofascism) to fester in the other parts of the world until WE have to deal with it again. it’s time to get our heads out of the sand and start looking at the world around us, helping the spread of democracy and freedom in places like IRAQ.
I don’t think he will win, but the farther he goes, the better. I see conservative advertisements all over this website. I have been a Republican my whole life and they have left me (like Reagan used to say about the Democratic party). We had the House, the Senate, and the Presidency and the Republicans spent more than any Democrat since the 60s.
Let’s see Ron Paul wants to abolish the IRS, abolish the Departments of Education, Energy, Agriculture, and others. He is pro-life. He is pro-gun rights. He is serious about cutting spending. He is not a career politician. These are all traditional conservative issues.
It is Bush and the current Republican leaders that are acting like Democrats. Wake up!
No matter how bad you think the fiscal policy of the conservative candidates are, they still beat the imaginary fiscal policies of Ron Paul. Gold standard? That was last century. Come on Paulites, stay current.
Clay,
You give the Paulbearers too much credit. A booklet would imply that they had enough of an attention span to manually look something up.
No, they have a “Google” like application that let’s them type in an anti-RuPaul comment and spits out the approved “Ron Paul Says” ™ argument.
Also…$100.00?!?!?!? Geeeze you’re cheep! Why not make a real bet with these mo-mo’s. How about if the good Doktor wins, you will strip naked, paint yourself blue, and stand at the busiest intersection in your town with a sign that says, “Ron Paul, the future of America.” However, if he looses, the PaulBots do the same but their sign says “pwn3d by reality”
I like that he’s pro-life, pro-gun. I like the Idea of cutting spending. But those things don’t scare me, someone sneaking a chemical or nuclear weapon into a major city does. His forign policy of isolation will lead to people dying. We have to fight terrorism and Islamofacism right now! The problem will not go away if you ignore it. The presidential race is about the lesser of two evils. Bush has done a lot of thing I disagree with, but he was a much better choice than Gore or Kerry. The same will play out in 2008, who’s it gonna be… not quite sure, but I will vote for the lesser of the two evils.
Brilliant! Absolutely f’ing BRILLIANT!!!! The point of the election is NOT to win, it’s to make a statement! Holy cow how could I have missed that? Perhaps I should read up more on this Thomas Jefferson fella…was this one of his ideas?
Because I do that anyway, execpt I don’t paint my self blue or hold a Ron Paul sign!
I agree that if the Democrats had total control it would be worse, but something drastic has got to change. Both parties today have accepted this idea that government is the solution to every problem. We need someone to preach the traditional American philosophy of the founding fathers and remind people that more government is the problem not the solution. None of the leading conservatives are interested in doing that. Maybe you disagree on some things with Paul but, I just can’t believe that you hate him so much. It boggles my mind.
…and a liar and fool for even LONGER!!!!

PK,
You are aware that Bush isn’t running this time, right?
OK, well, I tried. You guys are hopeless. I guess we’ll just spend money until we run this country into the ground. At least we’ll be killing terrorists. Gotta keep our priorities straight.
PK,… have you listened to Mike Huckabee lately??
I don’t hate Ron Paul, he just screams out to be made fun of.
ya know, I’ve watched all the debates, and it seems like most of the candidates are campaigning for smaller government. In fact, Ron Paul is the least persuasive on the issue, because he turns every question hes asked into a chance to rant about foreign policy. From the way things appear, all the other candidates are the ones interested in fixing domestic issues and shrinking government, while Paul just comes up with magical ideas to do so (He’ll eliminate all these departments with nothing but the force of his will!)
Since it’s only funny money (according to the good Doktor) what does it matter?
Dang straight you hopeless twit. They want to kill us, regardless of the fairy tales you and your ilk tell yourselves. Pulling back to our shores will only make their wish easier to fulfill. Google another site and go annoy people at another site. Slapping you down is too easy…even for a PaulBot.
PK,
Don’t give up yet. I’m sure you’ve convinced somebody that mailing gold ingots to their mortgage company every month will solve our country’s problems.
aww, it’s fun to berate people for not replying but when someone does answer suddenly you have to go? oh well you tried.
PK, if we were in any other security position in this country, I would probably side with you. As things stand, however, we are at war with people who attacked us on our own soil from the other side of the world. We can’t afford to have a president who isn’t willing to fight them where they are to protect the people of this country. Like Thomas Jefferson, I wish we could stand on ground perfectly neutral and independent from all countries, but when we’re attacked like that, our only choices are to fight or surrender our entire way of life. I’ll fight our overreaching government once people stop trying to kill me.
Actually, from what I’ve seen of Fred, he seems to be for the less government, etc. position that you’re complaining about the candidates not having. Example.
Blast, he left before I finished my comment. I hate it when that happens!
PK, your argument is that – opposing Paul = we support everything about George Bush.
I’m not sure where got this idea, but it’s a completely fallacious strawman to attack.
It makes as much sense as me saying anybody who opposes Hillary Clinton supports everything about George Bush or Ron Paul.
With regard to spending, while I don’t like it, it makes non sense to discuss the budget in absolute numbers without pointing out as a percentage of GDP it’s less than it’s been in decades past and that, as
a percantage of GDP, the Vietnam War and Korean War cost much more than this one (along with far greater casualties – Paul can talk all he wants about making nice with people, but the message that’d be heard, whether you like it or not is that America is unwilling to fight a war if it means we’d lose more than 3,000 lives).
Now I’m sure you and other Paul supporters here can come up with some decent arguments that we shoulnd’t have gone into Iraq. If you can also invent a time machine that’s relevant to me. If you can’t, the important thing is the 30,000,000 people we’re going to leave to fry, the fact we’re going to strengthen Iran, the fact we’re going to send a message not to stick your neck out for the U.S. because we’ll abandon you and let you rot, and that all you have to do to defeat America in a war is to blow up a bunch of kids in a street market.
Hell, I’d like to abolish racism, socialism, hunger, and death.
I’d like to bring about world peace, save the children, and save the earth from global warming.
Ah, yes. I have a dream! Ron Paul 2008!
Ya know, he almost had me converted, one more comment and I would have joined him. Oh well, I guess I’ll go back to my Bush Temple (the one I made for G.W. not my wife’s)and bow and light candles.
“Vote for Me, Bro.”
Classic.
Pk,
You have convinced me that Ron Paul is the saviour of america, and I wish to help his campaign, but I don’t have a bank account to source my paypal contributions from. if you would kindly tell me yours I will happliy deposit over the maximum contribution limit and let you keep the excess for yourself. Lets save america together.

The brain in nigeria
PK?… crickets
Hmmm, I guess he/she is gone. PK should’a kept going. His arguments were reaching the level of mediocrity.
Quitter!!! Maybe he went back to his mother’s basement. He’s pulled back so I guess that means we no longer have anything against him so we should stop slamming him. Oh wow! If that works here, then it could work with teritz! Maybe the good Doktor is right?!?11?!
PK,
Bush WILL be re-elected no matter what you and your insignificant rebellion does in support of Ron Paul. Mark.My.Words!
12 More Years!
PK,
by the way, LOVED your compression utilities.
Spacemonkey, you must be thinking of someone else… Paulbearers don’t contribute anything useful to society. Unless, of course, you count giving the rest of the sane people in this country someone else to point and laugh at.
Speaking of which…. (points at PK) HA HA!
Ron Paul’s theme song ought to be “I Want to Conquer the World” from Bad Religion:
And I want to conquer the world,
Give all the idiots a brand new religion,
Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all of my decisions
I want to conquer the world,
Expose the culprits and feed them to the children,
I’ll do away with air pollution and then I’ll save the whales,
We’ll have peace on earth and global communion.
Obscure geek reference….way to go spacemonkey!
Trolls never leave that easily. Trust me, even if he doesn’t post again he’s logged back in to see what the responses were.
Wow…I kinda hate I had to go to class. Seems I missed out when the real fun started.
PK stuck around just long enough for The Mighty Booooooosh to track him down and personally put him in the nearest internment camp. Where’s your savior now, PK? Bwah ha ha ha ha ha!
Joseph,
you didn’t miss much. Just a bunch of us poking a brain-dead roadkill with a stick.
Frank J – This is getting to be something like bear baiting. You set the trap, some unsuspecting Ronulan takes the bait, then the dogs in the comment section tear him to bits.
Are the Ronulans any more deluded than someone who openly admits to believing there was a cover-up of an alien crash in Roswell? …or the Loch Ness monster? …or that we didn’t land on the moon? Seems I read those gems somewhere… Oh yeah, in your Ronin Profiles. Mr. Pot, I’d like to introduce Mr. Kettle. …except the whackos that support him actually gave him $4-million overnight. What have your whack-jobs given you lately?
Ms. Airhead, I’d like to introduce Mr. Clue.
The warm and fuzzy feeling that we can drive clueless lil’ nutjobs like you into an impotent frothing rage (sometimes against the machine).
FormerHostage, I’m from Mississippi, I’m always up for poking any form of roadkill with a stick.
Yeah, Frank, what have we done for you lately?
Oh yeah… NOTHING. Well, maybe a little.
In our defense, we didn’t know that the Frank/Harvey/Simian/Joo/Waterfowl collective was running for office, so we didn’t give our spare 4 million…
Yet. But just you wait, Bitchy. Frank’s gonna be old enough to run before you can say “My Butt Hurts”.
Damn. I’ve been really busy today and I missed the Paulbot invasion. Frank, will you post something again tomorrow morning, preferably around 9:00 am ET. I too wish to rub their noses in their own craziness, all the while creaming, “No! Bad Ronulan!”
Hey Granddaddy…bit of a Freudian slip there huh?
I missed it all, too. The above is a very funny read.
“PK” stands for “Purple K” – a type of fire extinguisher. Guess his/hers was out.
Of all the days I decided to go to my computer science class, it had to be today and I missed making fun of the paulBots… I swear I shall never attend CS1113 again, instead I will constantly monitor IMAO for paulBot invasions!
Former Hostage – take a chill. The day you drive me into a frothing rage is the day you vote for Jimmy Carter. Everyone who isn’t “with” you isn’t against you, Einstein. Just because I don’t enjoy seeing the clueless torn apart by the impotent doesn’t make me your daisy. Got it? Or don’t. I don’t care. Go rage at some little girl that fears the awesome power of your mighty words.
See Frank J – these Ronulan posts really bring out the best in your readers.
Who’s Ron Paul?
Is it funny or sad that all this is over Ron Freaking Paul?
Only because he claimed to be a wealthy Nigerian widow.
Don’t forget the Ronulans’ favorite quote:
Bitchy,
“Are the Ronulans any more deluded than someone who openly admits to believing there was a cover-up of an alien crash in Roswell? …or the Loch Ness monster? …or that we didn’t land on the moon?” They are one and the same with neo nazis and truthers thrown in.
“Are the Ronulans any more deluded than someone who openly admits to believing there was a cover-up of an alien crash in Roswell? …or the Loch Ness monster? …or that we didn’t land on the moon? Seems I read those gems somewhere… Oh
yeah, in your Ronin Profiles.”-Bitchy NonRonin
I must have missed these Ronin profiles of which you speak, because as far as I know only one person espoused those views in a ronin profile.
This is besides the point though, since obviously you don’t understand the idea behind this game, its troll bait. We make fun of paulBots because they mindlessly search the interweb for mentions of their savior and then propagandize ineffectually.
Bitch,
ironically I actually DID vote for Jimmah back in ’76.
Impotent? Yeah, maybe so. The regulars here aren’t really changing the world with out posts. The difference is that most of us realize that, as opposed to the clueless who really think that by dropping by and spewing pre-formatted arguments are going to blind us to the train-wreck that is RuPaul’s campaign.
Sorry about all those big words. Here, let’s try some simple ones for you…
You are a clown. This site is about humor. Profiles are 90%…sorry, math might confuse you…profiles are mostly jokes.
you not daisy…just stupid with intent, and probably a prior.
Sorry, now I have to use big words for the next part. Maybe your mom will read it to you and help you out.
We usually give people the benefit of the doubt here the first time. Once they prove to be trolls we show no mercy. By definition, Paulbearers are trolls…yeah that’s harsh but we have to go with our experiences with them in the past.
I also find it interesting that you consider my response to you as a “rage” rather than a sardonic answer to your snide comment. Rage huh? Hmmm, maybe you ARE a daisy.
Ron Paul, you magnificent bastard, I read your cookbook!
Former – Yeah, so did I. I’ve apologized to you for it before. …and I prayed for your safety while those fanatics had you and our President did worse than nothing. BTW -Your my daisy, bitch. I make a simple point (directed at Frank J, what are you, his mommy?) and you start with the ad hominem. That makes you my daisy. You think picking on the simple minded is funny. Maybe I do too, Daisy. You’re not impotent? Reach through the screen and throttle me, daisy. Or just sit there in your jammies and call me names. Well, Frank J could ban me. We’ve seen him ban someone for being uncivil to you before. He did it out of respect for your sacrifice to this country. I guess that makes you King Turd here. It sure hasn’t improved your sense of honor or humor or dignity, daisy.
Frank J – I retract my suggestion. Please continue to take the low road and bait the weak-minded/truther/Ronulans. The horde is hungry. Feed the horde! Forget that nagging impulse to defend the weak. It’s more fun to eat them! After all, this is about the most comments you’ve gotten since that time you suggested that Bill Clnton was able to satisfy himself…orally. On top of that, I’ve managed to get into a whizzing contest with someone I’ve considered a genuine hero (‘cept he keeps bringing a knife to a gun fight). Now that is having fun with your internet tubes!
…and you’re my lil’ huckleberry.
“Wired” says a lot about the Ronbots:
http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2007/11/whos-nuttier-ap.html
That PK is just a quitter. I could never vote for a candidate who’s supporters are quitters.
The U.S.A. GDP grew by 3.9% last quarter. That is proof that it’s Ron Paul and his supporters that are guilty of economic ignorance.
Ron Paul supporters are funded by George Soros.
Bet?
I heard that Ron Paul is in favor of more government and a bigger military.
No Carolyn, that was Rue Paul.
Sorry, I meant RuPaul.
I like Ron Paul. He is a Vetean, and he will be a fine President.
I really do not understand why you would want to elect Hillary with all those loser Candidates.
Vote Ron Paul. He is the winner among us.
