Be there or be square. You can watch them riff a short for free and then it’s Planet of Dinosaurs.
I’m pretty excited – I can’t believe I’ve gone on this long without MST3K – so they better not disappoint or I’ll be mad!
UPDATE:
Well, that could have gone better. As someone who works with web apps, it did seem to me the system probably needed a bit more testing before so much load got thrown on it and I was already expecting things to be a little shaky. I guess who put the servers together thought he could save himself a couple minutes and instead SHOOK HANDS WITH DANGER!
Well, the short was hilarious and everyone who paid (such as me – that’s right, they made Internet’s Frank pay!) will be getting a refund. Hopefully they’ll have more luck in the future because that would have been pretty cool had it worked. Going to watch the Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban riff with my wife now to get my fix.
UPDATE 2:
Harry Potter 3 riff = Pure WIN. “That’s the nerdiest use of time travel since I used it to get ‘Firsties’ on a message board.”
I might try doing a movie riff with SarahK some day, but they do not make it look easy. I am constantly in awe of their clever observation and pop culture references.
Do you suppose they could ever have an episode funnier than “Mantos, The Hands of Fate?”
[Hands, the Hands of Fate is a high bar to try and surpass, but who know? -Ed.]
I agree. Also I spelled it wrong it’s Manos not Mantos.
Mentos of Fate?
lol
Man, i miss that show. But i think i have seen them live before and not so good. frankly they are much more calculated than you would assume.
[It’s live, but that’s not to say it isn’t scripted. They have a studio version of the riff coming out the day after. -Ed.]
Oh Noes! Ya mean all those riffs were not just off the cuff snarkiness. If I find out the robots weren’t real, I’m gonna sue.
FACT: The funniest episode is a three way tie between The Final Sacrifice, Soultaker, and Mitchell.
Honestly, The Hands of Fate is such an awful movie I couldn’t sit through the whole episode.
I want to make a correction. Three way tie between The Final Sacrifice, Werewolf (“Flagstaff! Industry! Family! Foreign people talking in attics!”), and Mitchell.
Unfortunately I only ever caught about 3 or 4 later eps of MST3K when it was ending its run. Never heard of it before then. College and hash got in the way. I did rent the movie when it came out, that had me in tears.
Netflix carries a large selection of MST3K. The best one ever was Riding with Death, followed by Space Mutiny.
I can;t get to the checkout line. The server keeps crashing – I guess that means they’ve been successful marketing it, but damn.
MST3K kicked a$$
“I can;t get to the checkout line. The server keeps crashing – I guess that means they’ve been successful marketing it, but damn.”
Tell me about it. POS AOL 56K server. Get with the times dude.
“And, believe me, Death does not pony up for gas!”
Push the button Frank!!
My favorite was Pod People. Godzilla Vs the Sea Monster was excellent too.
Manos is a must see. Unfortunately, very few of the first season Sci Fi channel (which were the best) made it to DVD, and our cable system didn’t have Sci Fi at the time.
Disappointing tonight, but that’s OK. We love em anyway.
If I commented something like “I’ve never seen MST3K, and I have exactly NO idea what any of you are talking about!” I think that would really hurt my IMAO cred. So I’m not going to say that. In fact, pretend you didn’t even read this. Thanks.
[Well, it’s good you didn’t say that because then I’d have no choice but to shun you. -Ed.]
It says “15 Responses to “Reminder: RiffTrax Live Tonight *UPDATED*”, but I only see 14 responses. Weird.
“Dis is ubsolutely fussinating.”
“Stop the movie, everyone go up a shirt size!”
“Doctor lady!”
“Someone threw out a perfectly good arm remover!”
“At this point the writers are asking themselves ‘Did we have a boat chase yet?’ ‘No, I don’t think so.’ ‘Well, should we go back and check just in case?’ ‘No, I’m pretty sure I’d remember if we had a boat chase.'”
“More good old fashioned nightmare fuel.”
“The cat was his familiar. All good wizards have one.”
“Mine lives in my sweater vest!”
“What do you mean it’s not there? It weighs twenty tons!”
“If it’s heavy, it has to be there!”
“What do you mean it’s not there? It’s blue!”
In their defense, the first time this was tried things went off much better. A few audio problems at the beginning I think, but few complaints overall. Maybe it’s just a testament to IMAdvertisingO.
Just in case it wasn’t clear enough, I was shunning innominatus with that comment.
Manos is the tops. I loved Cave Dwellers and of course the work with all of those old short films are fantastic.
I think I read or heard somewhere that they watch each film 3 or 4 times are write stuff down so they get the best riffs. Gotta love that much dedication to humor.
Manos is almost unwatchable. I love Skydivers. “Coffee? What is this coffee?”
