Call this the link of the day.
Loughner broke the law when he bought his gun.
Gun control laws did not stop him.
Pass it on to anyone who says otherwise.

Thanks for the link… And thanks for sharing the truth!
I will remember this for all future debates. Thank you Harvey.
Wait, criminals lie on official government forms? Oh the horror.
That sounds serious. I’m surprised he didn’t know it was against the law.
I don’t think Loughner’s personal ethics is the convincing legal point. A bit of googling seems to have fed the media quite a bit of information about the guy over a 72-hour period. Wouldn’t it be possible to routinely do the the same, much faster, with enough computing power? Maybe that’s asking too much of AI right now.
Yes, but you haven’t considered the combination of gun control laws and the totally ghey T-Shirts handed out by Obama at his “event” in AZ. Nobody wearing that T-Shirt could possibly commit violence of any kind and would turn instantly into a victim as soon as they put it on….so, anyone who can’t have a gun must wear the T-Shirt 24X7! Problem solved!
When JFK was shot, there were some 22,000 gun (control) laws on this nation’s books. They protected him not a bit. A lot on the right will ask: when will the left learn that serious lawbreakers (murderers) could give a hoot about breaking some minor gun control law? Kids in the fifties could (and did) turn out a zip gun in 20 minutes in any high school workshop.
Answer: they already have known that for years, these anti-freedom control freaks are not dumb and they really could care less about murder (witness their ghetto contituancy’s lifestyle)
It is the upright citizen’s guns they fear – for they fully intend to impose all their control on us and it is only the guns that are stopping them.
Obviously there was not a sign in the gun shop telling him it was illegal.
I do believe that Lee Oswald purchased his Mannlicher carbine via mail order. I doubt that a ban on mail order firearms would have protected JFK a whit; however, mail order firearms are a freedom I could live without.
This just in: even if he bought it legally, he used it illegaly. Why don’t people get that a criminal is one who commits unlawful actions/disregards the law and therefore changing the law won’t stop the act? Then there’s the minor detail that his thoughts weren’t based in reality anyway, so it wouldn’t have mattered. I think we need to pass a law that mandates people understand that concept.
Burmashave, I am conflicted on that issue, but I do prefer buying my guns and ammo at my local hardware/gun store. A good gun store should, afterall, be dark and filled with the sounds of the Excellence in Broadcasting Network.
Carolyn – what this country REALLY needs is a law that makes it illegal to break laws 🙂
Number 7, I wish we still had mail order guns. I hate ordering a weapon, then having to drive all the way to my gun dealer to pick it up. It takes away from time I could be reading IMAO, or genetically altering ostrich eggs in an attempt to resurrect the tyrannosaurus rex.
How about this. We impose an IQ test for guns. It is a very simple one. We ask the person if they think the following people are smarter then them, Obama, Pelosi, Al Gore, Reverend Wright, or Harry Reid. If they answer that they think any of those people might be smarter then them, then they are obviously an idiot, and don’t need to either own a gun, vote, or reproduce. We should then all stand around punching them in the junk until they loose their ability to make future generations of idiots.
Have you seen the movie Machette? They aren’t illegal! “Machette don’t text”, by the way…
Carolyn, the same people also don’t get that Criminals don’t usually get their guns legally. This one did but that’s because he leans more to the “crazy, hears voices in his head” criminal than the garden variety criminal. They’re both crazy but the latter is much more predictable.
He could have just as easily hit her with a stolen car (then of course we should ban cars), thrown a chemical like bleach on her (then Clorax would be banned), thrown a spear at her ( trees, metal, rope or whatever else it was made from would need to go), or he could have simply punched her in the face (watch out they’re coming for your hands).
People have been killing each other since Cain and Able. Why? For many and various reasons but mostly because some people are just crazy. Adam and Eve were the same parents that produced Able so how do you explain Cain? Nature vs nurture. Crazy is simply crazy.
Maybe they should pass a law that makes it a crime to shoot a woman in the head.
Meanwhile, if a criminal breaks into your house or invades/vandalizes your property and you use your gun legally against him, he can then sue you for damamges. Ahhhhhhhh, gotta love the law.
And after the thief sues for damamges, he can sue for damages.
Dang fingers, they get you every time.
Silly Harvey! The answer to ineffective gun laws is more draconian ineffective gun laws!
Harvey, stop being a hater.
Carolyn, not in Florida.
I have had to sign that ATF form 4473 many times and you’ll note that if you answer yes to any of the questions (some of which you would have to be an idiot to answer yes), will not allow you to purchase a handgun. That is as stupid as the airline check-in clerk asking you if your bag was packed by somebody else or out of you sight for an extended period of time. Sheesh!
The other problem is that it can not be left up to “another” to decide if you should be allowed to have a gun, as they do with the police in N.Y. 99% percent of the time they DO NOT allow someone a gun permit.
It is just unfortunate, that with the “relaxed” gun carry laws in AZ, no one at the rally was armed but the a**hole.
I can understand it thought. It is actually a hassle to be carrying a gun around with you all the time. I sometimes do, most times don’t.
Yes, Harvey, but when these brave new restrictions on guns
are combined with new laws
abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances,
and removal of the
right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures,
then, boy howdy! we’ll be living in the people’s paradise , won’t we!
Actually Caroline, in most red states, he can’t sue, as his injury was caused by criminally being in an area, or while committing a crime. If you live in a blue state, simply make sure that he is in such a condition that he is unable to form the words law suit, in his mind.
Try and break into my house. First round – blank to see if you get the message, Second round – Rock Salt to see if you feel the message, Third Round, 00 Buck you now have the message.
Death to all who call me Caroline. Grrrr.
We would not be having any of these conversations had the local law enforcement people only had arrested the punk for making those death threats. Making a death threat is a crime, around here it’s called “terroristic threats” and is a felony. Had he been arrested he probably would have had to go before a judge and show that he did not need to go for an involuntary psych eval. One of those would have almost certainly got him committed. And an involuntary commitment IS one of the things reported to the Fed to go into the database when the gun dealer makes that phone call.
It’s a crying shame we do not have a real news media in this country anymore. Sheriff Doobner was making all that noise simply to keep folks from asking: “If this guy made death threats, why wasn’t he locked up?”
We’ve seen a whole lot of “we can’t lock someone up just because he makes people uncomfortable.” Sorry folks, a death threat is far more than making someone uncomfortable. It’s a crime.
