  1. Want to know the answer to that question?
Want to really know the answer?
If you think you’re prepared, if you think you can handle it –
remember how popular these two guys were, remember how popular this song was . . . and then watch Mick Jagger and David Bowie do “Dancing in the Street”

[Full disclosure – I grew up then and have a soft spot for all this stuff. No, I’m not gay…no, really]

  2. Ah… 1984. Reagan was being re-elected, the Cold war was peaking, and I turned 30. No, we were not retarded, and yes, almost the entire decade was awesome. So… awesome.
BTW, as you age you will find that certain decades will seem retarded in retrospect. For instance, the ’60’s were cool ’til about ’67, then disintegrated as the hippies got traction, the ’70s were retarded, top to bottom, from Watergate to disco to Jimmah Carter. The Reagan era was … so… awesome.

Yah, Okay, I thinks its time for you to go away forever now, you can’t even stay on subject, its like your whole life is dedicated to being a troll.

  4. you know, if you guys ever decided to do another podcast or IMAO for the Non-Deaf, this would make a great theme song. So retro, like the days when you used to do podcasts and IMAO for the Non-Deaf, and ironic, with “you’ve never seen” in an audio presentation, all in one.

  5. The 70s models were pretty awesome, but I think sarcasm a-hole is a ronulan.
Life is so much better when you don’t care about worthless peons.
Corvettes are always overpriced simply because they can be.

  6. I think you’re sneaking into early 90s territory there Chris…
Speaking of which, the early 90s were pretty awesome…still have that “LA Gear”/BK Knights sheen of the 80s. Its also important to point out that the 80s produced one of, if not THE, best cartoon in human history… GI Joe: Real American Hero.
Kick ass cartoon like that would never make it onto the air today, what with the continued pussification of the American male. 🙁

  7. IMAO = LAMO Frony shill site. Backs pathetic dorky candidate who completely falled apart. Hilarity!!! IMAO backs most lifeless lamest candidate evah. Never forget Fred Thompson.
[That’s it. You’re banned. If we can’t have one non-political post without you trying to hijack it with your tiresome, repetitive, mindless tripe, then you’re ruining everyone else’s fun to… well, I have no idea what you’re trying to accomplish, and I doubt you do to. Please find a hobby.
Oh, and don’t forget your coat with the mittens on them. -Ed.]

  8. The best part is the gauntlets. As if you have to wear a high heat suit to drive this car. I think the post-apocalyptic landscape is a little bleak, though.
This, to me, is the model range that says “Corvette” to me, as these were my formative years. I always liked the late 70’s Stingray’s better.
Also, how come we cant have “Knight Rider” LCD digital readouts for everything in our cars today. It’s 2007 for the love of Pete. The instument panel on my Grand Caravan should look like a spaceship. Detroit, if you want to compete with the Japs you need to remedy this situation immediately!!

  9. Worst ‘Vette EVER. Digital dashes are John Edwards gay. A computer activated manual tranny you had to shift yourself..( W.T.F. )Tacky for the sake of being tacky. I was 14 and wanted one BAD! Thank God the fam had no $$$.
    Awesomely retarded commmercial, though.

  10. I was in high school in the ’80’s. Wonderful time. My only regret is I turned 18 in 1987, which meant I was too young to vote for Reagan. But I was old enough to vote for (the first) Bush.
And I had a 1988 Chevy Baretta GT with a digital dash. When you hit 118 mph, you knew it. Hell, you could even monitor your mpg instantaneously. That was real cool. I thought I was Michael Knight.

  11. The first thing I look for in a new car are “never before” speakers. They’re an absolute must.
That car really performs well in studio sets, yet I wonder how it did when actual sunlight hit it in the real world.
Kind of ironic in retrospect that this turned out to be an “OMG never again!” ad campaign lesson.

  12. The thing that gets me about this is, they seemed excited about a new car…when was the last time we heard any excitement about a vehicle? Nope, it’s more like “I think we’ll just keep putting out the same stuff year after year.”
And yes, Kid Pickle, I definately agree: my car should be talking to me and at least be nice enough to crank up and stay warm when it’s cold outside. Plus, what lady could turn down a guy with a talking car?

  13. Only thing that killed me about the commercial was the car only went up to 80 miles an hour, It’s a corvette damn it, but that was because 55 was the max spped anyware except Nevada. In which case you got an energy waste ticket for speeding not a speeding ticket

  14. Hmmm…
Digital dashes are John Edwards gay. A computer activated manual tranny you had to shift yourself..
I always thought that John Edwards was a computer activated tranny.
Besides that, if any part of a vette was John Edwards gay, you’d have to put the gas pump in the exhaust pipe.

  15. I agree that the ’70s and ’80s were largely retarded. I did own an ’87 Vette and it was the worst Vette I ever had. The wimping “CrossFire Injection” amd pathetic 4+3 manual trans that was a nightmare. The ’90s were much better and I still regret selling my Corvette Gran Sport, it was even better than the storied ZR1. Sadly, Vettes have become more of a status symbol. Those who really value their performance generally can’t afford them and those who can are more interested in style. Other Vette owners look at my odometer and react with horror that I actually DRIVE the damned thing (and HARD)as long as there is no snow on the road. It’s has become the greatest sports vehicle on the planet. What the commecialk promised back in ’84 the current Vette delivers.

  16. Are you kidding me, what’s not to love? That’s awesome!!
    An entire car commercial that:
    – Doesn’t mention gas mileage
    – Doesn’t mention cup holders
    – Doesn’t mention small children
    – Strongly suggests that the car will handle well at high speeds
    – And, doesn’t feature a soccer mom
Sign me up, I’ll take one!!

  17. Well, the tough thing to keep in mind now all these years later is that those were cool, first off features then. Now a Mini Cooper has more toys than that Vette did. I thought flip-up lights were cool until I bought a Probe and had to lock them up 4 years later. Four speakers in a two seat car were cool when most cars were two speakers and four seats, etc. It was also a big deal it could do 1 G on a skidpad.
To be fair to the Eighties, they were built on the combination of stupidity fatigue from the Seventies and Reaganesque hope. There wasn’t much left to build with, but getting from Starsky and Hutch to Transformers was a step in the right direction. It had its share of crap (Madonna singing “Lucky Star” and “Holiday” and making hits out of such complete crap, Smurfs, etc.) but it was a transitional time when Disco was finally behind us and Grunge hadn’t destroyed music yet.
