Canadian researchers have “strong proof” there is water on Mars.
I thought we already knew that? I mean, there’s two friggin’ ice caps on the planet. What do you think makes those up? I’m guessing “ice,” which, if I remember correctly from AP chemistry, is water in solid form.
Stupid Canucks. You let them build a robot arm for one shuttle and suddenly they all they’re all space explorers.

I thought I was the only massocist that here took AP chem.
You took AP Chemistry and yet forgot that the Martian ice caps are almost all frozen carbon dioxide?
Must have scored about a 1 on that exam, huh?
[You honestly think Mars would come up in AP chemistry? Do you know what chemistry is? -Ed.]
Carl, Ringmaster didn’t say he passed. He said he took the course.
Frank J., they didn’t have time to confirm that the planet is red. They were still working on whether the moon is made of cheese. I think a well placed nuke could answer that.
MMMMMM…. nuked moon cheese. Makes great nachos.
You honestly think Mars would come up in AP chemistry?
Who cares? The point is that anyone savvy enough about physical science to pass the AP Chem exam ought to know such a basic astrophysics fact. Or, if you like, since a good chemistry course should teach you about phase diagrams, you should realize that not everything that turns to a white solid at low temperatures has to be water.
Do you know what chemistry is?
Only enough to get a PhD in it from Berkeley and then teach it in college for 10 years. Your turn, punk.
[Still doesn’t prove you know what chemistry is. You could be teaching it at community college for all I know. Plus our chemistry here doesn’t even apply to Mars because it’s a completely different planet. -Ed.]
Sorry, Pham, recent evidence points to both CO2 and H2O being in the caps. The CO2 coats the water ice every year and then mostly sublimes off.
PhD from Berkeley, eh? Guess, as a scientist, you should do a bit more research before being rude here.
So…. C02 at Martian troposphereic pressure couldn’t possibly include trace H2O?
Yeah, that damn Hydrogen, rare element that is, and oh so stable.
Oooh! Everybody ! A Fight! Wow, oh Wow. Between…..Chemists?
Nevermind, belay that alert. Here’s my mature wisdom on the subject:
Mars is Red. Mars has white stuff at either end. It’s pretty in the pictures. Canucks say there’s water on Mars. They make really good bacon and their police guys have those cool Mountie uniforms. So; and follow the logic trail here:
Frank nukes the Moon. We leave Mars alone, it’s a Republican planet after all, we all crack a Molsens and snack on Canadian bacon while making “Nice, Nice”.
Chemistry: What I don’t have with the ex. Yes, I’m taking a “drug holiday” today.
Pieces,
Wollf
Hey there, Wolfe! Ok, lay your wisdom on these questions:
1. How come we’ve got two names for our planet, “Earth” and “Terra?”
2. What other word do use for Mars, then, besides “Mars?”
Geek fight… sweet…
Watch out for those horned rimmed glasses and pocket protectors. They’ve been known to put an eye out.
What do you all you AP chemists think has been flowing in those canals all these years? Huh, smarty-pants (sorry, Pham, Doctor Smarty-Pants to you)?
It’s lucky for you guys they all caught colds and died in New Jersey, or we’d all be speaking Martian now. Probably with a Berkeley accent. Dude.
Honestly, does any kind of degree from Berkley count as legitimate credentials?
As for America, Jr., next thing you’ll hear from them is that Joopiter has a big red pimple, eh.
Well Jimmy,(imagine deep “scientist” type radio voice),
The two words are interchangeable. You see, “Earth” means “dirt”. “Terra” is a Firrin’ word meaning “Potato Chip”. ( The really fancy ones you get on Jet Blue).
Potato chips come from “potatoes”, which are of course, grown in “Dirt”. Thus, Jimmy, Terra=Dirt.
And your second question, I think, is quite simply answered in researching the etymology of the word “Mars”. Mars comes from the Greek God of War.
As we all know, Mars, the God of War, is known to his closest friends as “Fred”.
God of War=Mars=Red=Republican=Fred!
I gotta go take my meds……..
Class dismissed.

“The point is that anyone savvy enough about physical science to pass the AP Chem exam ought to know such a basic astrophysics fact.”
I’m sorry, how does that work exactly? How does Chemistry knowledge translate into knowledge about Mars? Magic? I know an awful lot about Norse mythology, by your logic I should know a lot about Greek history also. I MEAN THEY ARE BOTH HISTORY! I am an ace Computer Programmer in C++ but I don’t know a bit of perl and those two are far more closely related to each other then chemistry and mars.
I guess intelligence isn’t required for a PH.D. You = slow?
LOL, Wollf. Did you know there’s a nautical phrase that helps mariners remember their buoy colors: “Red, Right, Returning” (to harbor). In politics, this translates to “Red, Right, Republican” which, thanks to your new definition is:
“Fred Right Republican”
All together now,
“F R R!”
Nice one right back at ya, Jimmy
Wollf
a PHD in shemestry from Berkley eh? So your chem degree is more in line with spouting stalanist retoric and how everything is Americas fault than actually using the periotic table eh comrade.
So, in conclusion, howlsatmoon (Wollf) and I have declared that Mars is the “Fred Planet” (and not just the “red planet”) and that Fred is the Right Republican for President.
Any questions? I didn’t think so.
One question.
What is this Canada of which you speak?
