Ronin Profiles: PaleoMedic

PaleoMedic

Let’s meet another IMAO reader. Today, it’s PaleoMedic.

Where do you live?
Fort Collins, Colorado
How old are you?
41. I remember weird things, like Elizabeth Montgomery on my dad’s black and white TV telling me that “Bewitched is next, in color.”
Tell us briefly about yourself.
Born in Butte Montana, raised in Cody Wyoming. Despite decades living in cowboy country I loathe, yes, loathe, country music. Married for nearly twenty years, two sons, 18 and 16. Both plan on enlisting in the military, one Army, one Marine Corps. It’s genetic, I think. Grandpa was a reservist in the Army Air Corps and an engineer for Boeing, building B29s. Dad, Marine; brother, Marine; two brothers, Army.
Ever punch a liberal in his dumb monkey face?
Soon, hopefully. I’m actually fortunate. The people surrounding me are remarkably lucid. Most of the MFL types who irk me are on TV or in a news article, so punching would require a lot of planning and driving. Might be worth the effort though…Boulder is close.
How long have you been reading IMAO?
At least three years, give or take a couple months. IMAO was the first place I ever posted a comment, anywhere. My moment of giddiness was quickly replaced by the realization that I sounded like a total moron…nothing’s changed. I live and die with each comment.
What’s the story behind your name?
I was a combat medic in the Army from 1987-1991. I spent three years in Germany. PaleoMedic is just an overly self-important tag I adopted. I missed the big show in the desert. Can’t tell you how much it sucks to be left behind, especially after training three years for it. It still gnaws at me, haunts my dreams, and I hope to reenlist after the boys graduate (my wife made me promise to wait till then–two years!)
What’s your favorite IMAO post?
Impossible to pick just one, but I’ve always loved In My World. Reading Dubya’s lines and imagining his
weird breathy Texas patois cracks me up. And the stories oddly make more sense than what actually comes out of Washington.
What’s you favorite political issue?
I actually hate politics, but it’s an addiction I can’t seem to quit. It’s therapeutic, however, to be able to laugh at the absurdity of it all, and IMAO is key to that therapy (Butt Smooching Moment, or BSM) I pay a lot of attention to anything involving national defense and the war.
Do you have a website?
Just started a lame-o blog that is still in its larval stage, paleomedic.mee.nu. It’s literally a week old, if that. I aspire to achieve my own Nuke The Moon moment soon (BSM Redux). For now, though, I got nothing.
If you had the choice between a lifetime supply of bacon and the ability to breathe underwater, which would you choose and why?
Gotta go with bacon. It’s tasty, and works like garlic in deterring bad guys with designs to blow me up. The grease also words an adequate pomade for my hair. And being in a landlocked state, underwater breathing would be underutilized.

Only two in, and I’m really liking this segment.
If you commented that you want to be included before, you’re still in the running. You can also comment in this post; just make sure you fill in your e-mail on the comment form (only I can see it so you don’t have to worry about getting spam). Eventually we’ll get to everyone.

  1. It would be most cool to be able to say I’ve been interviewed by a world-famous blogger who has also interviewed Tom Tanc and G. Gordon Liddy. I sumbit to your interrogations willfully with no waterboarding necessary (even though waterboarding sounds kinda fun, ‘specially on a hot day)

  2. I would still be willing for the interview segment.
Paleomedic- Love your home town even if my experience there was 2.5 years of slave labor in a Colorado State U chemistry lab.

  3. Mmmm, bacon jacket.
    Desert Elephant,
Thanks for the kind words. I’m proud that this lengthy war has not diminished my two sons’ call to service. If nothing else, my wife and I did that right. It’s a blessing to see teenagers able to think outside themselves.
    ChrisA,
True, bacon should be used for eating above all else, but it’s miracle properties cannot be ignored. It’s a breakfast food and it’s salty nectar is great for lubing a bike, or dipping sniper bullets in for demoralization purposes.
    Brian,
I’ve always wondered what goes on in those mysterious buildings with no windows and elaborate ventilation systems.
Frank, thanks for this opportunity. I look forward to leanring about the others who hang out here.

  4. Master Shake,
I did consider that, but I can whoop Aquaman’s butt without benefit of gills, or whatever weird thing he’s got going on. I hear good Aquaman bait is a Subway Club with plenty of mayonnaise. Plus, if I recall The Super Friends properly, he was often hanging around the Hall of Justice. So I presume he beaches himself now and then to hang with his more powerful buddies and thus look tougher.

  5. OOOH…me, me, me! I’ll volunteer! This is a cool idea…I want to know a little bit more about some of my co-readers of IMAO. And Paleo, please.. please…please don’t downplay your service. I understand how you feel (former Air Force Wife) BUT every last cog in our military machine no matter where or how you serve is significant and loved by all true patriots! And a Marine…..me-ow!

  6. I’d like to get in on this too. If there’s still time, send me one of these little question thingees.
Oh and for the record, I’d choose a lifetime supply of bacon as well, but for different reasons.
With a lifetime supply of bacon, I could fashion a series of bacon suits, bacon hats, and bacon shoes. Then, when PETA comes a’ callin’, my followers and I would all show up in our bacon ensembles and have loud discussions about how great it is to eat meat while PETA and the other animal rights nutjobs struggle vainly to attract attention away from our magnificent bacon clothes.

  7. Paleo, thank you for your service.
I’d be up for being interviewed. (if I can dish it out, I got to be able to take it)
Bid all here peace love and understanding
    all the best,
    ceann rua

  8. Paleo, it’s good to know more about you. BTW, I know an Elizabeth Montgomery who lives near you, but you’ve probably never seen her on TV…B&W or otherwise. Strange but True AND boring!
