Wow. The Wall Street Journal actually printed this in an editorial for open borders:
The well-manicured lawns in my home town would soon become weed gardens in the absence of the Mexicans who man landscape services.
“You expect me to cut my own grass?! Our national sovereignty isn’t that important!”
I expect that sort of thing from limousine liberals, but from a paper that’s supposed to be a bastion of conservative thought? If you really can’t find any legal Americans to cut your lawn, try growing a pair and buy a John Deere.

Mow my lawn? No way! The Denny’s Profesisonal Bowlers’ Tournament is on TV right now. Let that darn grass just keep growing. I’m busy.
Thanks for the link, Frank!
[Thanks for giving a glimpse of the subscription side of the WSJ. -Ed.]
What the heck. That is what I had kids for…since it is so hard to find enough illegals in Montana to mow my 40 acres.
Unfortunately the WSJ has been sliding for some time into limo lib territory and now in no way deserves to be considered a “bastion of conservative thought”
The thing that bugs me is how often this kind of commentary goes unchallenged. This is the kind of hypocrisy that snarky leftys say that the right hides as a “dirty little secret”.
Wow, so there were no lawns before illegal Mexicans overran our country? Oh that’s right, we used to just do it ourselves or hire a neighborhood kid. Hmmm.
I keep trying to come up with something funny, but it’s just not happening. Can incredulity and disgust cause brain damage? If so, I’m suing this twit!
Look, I was raised with John Deere equipment and have come to the conclusion I will never buy the overpriced crap again. It is sort of like buying a Ford. It sounds good because it has an American name but most of the parts are made off shore and just assembled here and the dang thing sucks when compared to cheaper rivals.
Didn’t the WSJ use to be the voice of conservatives? What the hell happened to that rag? Oh well…another MSM outlet that I don’t have to bother reading. There’s the occassional Peggy Noonan editorial that is worth reading. I can’t come up with the funny on this one…idiots!
Perhaps this writer is John Edwards in disguise. You can’t expect him to do yardwork, he’d break a nail!
Oh, COME ON! All the guys I know treat mowing like something fun and rewarding! I’m not even being sarcastic.
Besides, is that the worse thing in the world? Lawns getting scruffy? WhooooOOOoooo!
I’m sure lots of LEGAL people would do lawns for some cash. Does the author of that OP-ED have a hole in his head?
That’s funny;
I mow my girlfriend’s lawn,
I walk her dog,
and I take out her trash, too.
Hell, I’m lucky if she has enough energy to get out of bed and make me breakfast.
😉
I know there are kids in this man’s neighborhood who would mow his lawn for a price (of course) and being capitalist they are not going to work for peanuts.
Either cut your own grass or pony up and pay a decent price.

I’ve heard of lazy but that just takes the cake.
Sky, careful with the John Deere bashing. They are pretty much the only thing keeping the town I was born in Alive.
Grow a pair of…what? A pair of kids or a pair of their precursors? Either thought is scary – I do not want this man to breed.
no you know why many of the reporters have sent letters to the Bancroft family pleading with then not to sell to Murdoch. For the most part, they do come down on the right side though. James Taranto (opinionjournal.com) is decidedly conservative.
Kids do mow lawns for peanuts. I knew a kid who, by mowing lawns for peanuts, bought himself a riding lawnmower with snowplow attachment, increased his productivity to the point where it was profitable to mow lawns for peanuts, worked year-round doing lawns and plowing driveways, and bought himself a car before he was old enough to drive it. By the time he was 18 he had a little handyman business going, which he put on hold to join the Army. I’m proud to say we were one of his clients, we helped show him that the American Dream is alive and well. Plus we got a lot of lawn mowing and snow plowing for cheap!
