Let’s meet some more IMAO readers. Today, it’s Brian the Adequate.
What’s the story behind your name? Brian is my first name. I started commenting at IMAO and Wizbang as simply Brian, but then a stupid liberal troll started commenting at Wizbang, besmirching the good names of Brians everywhere with its poo flinging idiotcy, and I added the The Adequate to distinguish myself from it. I figured no libtard would go for self- depreciative humor and I can also hope one day to deserve a promotion to Brian The Somewhat Nifty.
[Win some High Praise and you’ll get the promotion. -Ed.]
Where do you live? Lafayette, Indiana
How old are you? As of 2:00 PM, October 1, 2007 I am 36 years, 360 days and approximately 10 hours.
Tell us briefly about yourself. I am a conservative Christian, married for 13 years, proud father of 2 beautiful daughters ages 11 and almost 9. I have a BS in chemistry from Rose-Hulman and an MS in physical-organic chemistry from Colorado State and work for a large Pharmaceutical company supporting manufacturing. I don’t have any guns currently, but recommendations with respect to the best brand of shotgun would be appreciated as I will need to acquire one in the next few years (see age of daughters above). Other than the time at CSU, I have never lived outside of Indiana (Granger, Terre Haute and now Lafayette)
How long have you been reading IMAO? About 4 years.
What’s your favorite IMAO post? Of all time I don’t think anything can beat the original Nuke The Moon post though the fun facts about the fifty states comes close. Currently Franks editorials and the LOLTERRITZ.
If you were to describe IMAO in three words, what would those be? Proverbs Twentysix three
What’s you favorite political issue? Not my favorite, but the only issue that is a deal maker/breaker for me is Judicial appointments. With the messed up system we have now, bad judges are a pox for years to come. More selfishly I am interested in ensuring that Big Oil remains (or someone else becomes) the whipping boy de jure for the socialist instead of the pharma industry.
Do you have a website? If so, please tell us briefly about it. No, I am far to lazy.
[Me too! -Ed.]
What would you find more useful: A wheelbarrow full of rocks or a bucket of mud? Depends on the situation, if there is only one monkey faced liberal around, definitely the bucket of mud. Much more portable when running down ones target. If one is unfortunately confronted by a horde of code pinkers or moveon.morons then you need the greater number of shots allowed by the wheelbarrow of rocks.
If you commented in the last post asking for participants, you’re still in the running. Thanks to everyone who has participated so far; just because you may not think you’re interesting doesn’t mean we won’t enjoy your story.

I liked Proverbs twentysex three.
if i can add correctly, Brian and I share a birthday!! i feel so adequate now!
Oh dear! I put sex instead of six!
Freudian slip? I wonder?
Oops I should have specified the version on the verse, in the NIV Ass is translated as donkey.
YAY!! Brian!! I’ve been looking forward to your profile. Welcome to the Ronin Pile!
As a Bible reader myself, I gotta admit I appreciate the Old Testament’s take on warriors a teeny bit more than the “turning the other cheek” thing in the new Testament. Don’t get me wrong, I totally get Jesus and how He died for my sins; I just like the idea of “onward Christian soldiers” in the more soldier-y sense.
Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. ~ Psalm 144:1
And Ephesians 6:10…ARMOR OF GOD, BABY!!!
Oh and from the book of Serenity…Jayne Cobb: Shepherd Book once said to me, “If you can’t do something smart, do something RIGHT.”
Umm, a Remington Model 870 would be a good choice; they’re very customizable and affordable. If you want something more tactical, I suggest a Benelli M1…higher capacity to hold off large crowds of hormone infested slobs. Go get ’em big guy.

:scratching head: well that’s do-able I suppose, but I like the follow up verse 21…Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good…A GOOD PUNCHING!!
Nope, nope I totally adlibbed that last part, it does not say to punch anyone in the new Testament…sorry, God. My bad.
You are more than “adequate,” Brian. AND you’re a chemist! Ha ha!
I agree with Adam’s earlier recommendation, although several lines of Browning shotguns are available, and, if you’re more comfortable with an automatic, the venerable Remington 1100 is always a good choice.
Brian, good to meet ya. Chemistry? Few things I ‘member is that HCL eats a mean hole in the butt of your jeans when you smear on your friend’s lab stool…turns your bottom Levi blue.
Supported Ba Au H2o for Prez. Wow that dates me.
As for weapon, Definetely check the Mossberg 500 seies, customize w/ pistolgrip. Load, since you seem to be a good Christion man, first beanbag, second rubber pellets and the final four 00.
Do realize that if the first two don’t convince an intruder, you’re going to be remodeling your house, heh.
Thanks, Frank J for a new Ronin. I really needed the grins after last nite.
Carry on, but Always carry.
Wow, just when I thought this site couldn’t get any cooler, I find another Rose-Hulman grad here! I too, graduated from Rose and am currently living in (West) Lafayette. I’m getting my masters in electrical engineering so I can follow in the footsteps of the legendary Frank J. and start my own blog someday. (Although, I’ll need to improve my drawing skills if I hope to equal Frank’s artistic talent.)
I’m glad to see that Rose-Hulman is so ‘adequate’-ly (cmon, laugh it up) represented here at IMAO.
On a totally unrelated note, Brian, can you recommend a good church in the (West) Lafayette area?
Ernie Loco-
Disclaimer- We go to Evangelical Covenant and live in the south side maze of cookie cutter houses, so we did not visit churches on your side of the river.
From friends at work, I have heard good things about St Andrews if the Methodist church is acceptable. You also may be young enough to enjoy the college fellowship at Purdue.
Finally, I will put in the plug for the Riverside Covenant Church. Personally I like the Covenant church because outside of a very small amount of dogma (Jesus is both fully God and fully Man. Jesus died to atone for your sins and then rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and will return to judge the earth) that pretty much define being a Christian IMHO, everything else we can agree to disagree. They even have room for Christians like me who think maybe that the book of Genesis is allegorical without threating to burn me at the stake as a witch.
Ernie –
I forgot to ask what year did you graduate from Rose? I am class of ’93 second to the last before the estrogen levels soared upward on campus.
“Other than the time at CSU, I have never lived outside of Indiana”
Those of us who have spent time in Indiana truly feel your pain. lol
Thanks for the advice, Brian. I’ve heard good things about ECC from several people, so I’ll have to check it out soon.
I just graduated from Rose this past May. And I’m not so sure about that ‘estrogen levels soaring’ – while it’s true that Rose is now coed, all the girls there are engineering majors, so…. Well, let’s just say that John Edwards produces more estrogen than all the girls at Rose put together.
Remington 870 or Mossberg 500. I’d stay away from most of the semi-auto’s except for the Benelli M1 Super 90.
Just finished our yearly qualification last week and one of the instructors said down at the MSHP range he saw 2 pump-gunners beat a semi shooter by 2 rounds in a speed shoot.
Something to think about.
Brian,
A word of advice from a sage… skip the shotgun!
An ice pick and a shovel work nicely… silent, little blood, and a turned earth in the tomato garden will not be noticed for a loooong time.
Amer-I-Can,
Thanks for the advice, the shotgun is more for show (I plan to be cleaning one in my underwear when I meet the young gentlemen). Kind of a Nuke The Moon strategy for my daughters virtue, if they think I am crazy, the boys are slightly less likely to be stupid.
Of course, having been a teenage boy myself, I know that even heads on pikes over the door may not dissuade all others from trying.
If I actually had to ahem deal with any of them, I know of a sink hole to an abandoned coal mine where nothing that goes in will ever be found.
Lazy enough to forget the second “o” in “too”?
Brian,
The discouragement is simple… I use it on the sniffers around my 13 year old daughter. I just shake their hand and say “I’m glad to meet you, but I don’t like you. You guys have fun and remember that whatever you do to my daughter, I’m going to do to you!”
No boy has stuck around long enough to worry about so far… but the ice pick is still stuck in the tree in the front yard…
I saw “Conservative Christian” and stopped right there! How dare you post on the internet you $%#$%%%$%! You are not fit to post on the internet along with other non Conservative Christians you %@###%@%@%! I’m so sick of you retards that blindly accept what the “bible” teaches…like God knows better than Comedy Central?
Sorry…couldn’t resist! Welcome aboard! I too am a Conservative Christian and proud of it!!!
