I’m trying like hell to say briefly how this day affects me each year. I guess I can sum it up this way; Gonna get me some whiskey tonight. I work with oblivions.
I can see why you held that first one up, Frank. Sarcasm Man precisely demonstrates the true emotional feelings of sour grapes, sour milk, sour pusses and sour intellects. AND he does it on this day, of all days. Sarc, in my mind, you died in 9/11.
For Poster 1:
Yeah, and the Germans don’t really have to keep Dachau open as a reminder of the darkness of the human spirit. We don’t really need to have civil rights laws to protect Americans from the pettiness of our own souls. We don’t really need to consider, on a daily basis, the depravity that is terrorism, because we can always hide in the comfort of our living rooms, drink a couple of beers, change the channel, type a few flip words, click our ruby slippers three times and hope that it all goes away.
I spent a long part of my life in the military, defending the rights of citizens like you. I still have shrapnel in my body from the first time around in the Gulf. You’re welcome to it, if it might help you get the point of rememberance. I’ve lost friends in Afghanistan and Iraq, who were over there to ensure that you don’t have to spend five times a day on your knees looking for Mecca. You dare to abuse the hospitatlity of this forum. FrankJ deserves credit for his tolerance, and the fact that he upholds the First Amendment. That’s the same amendment that gives you the right to be an ass in public, as you’ve aptly demonstrated.
Yes, you have the right to free, irresponsible speech. So does Ward Churchill. Cut from the same cloth, man, cut from the same cloth…
Thanks, Frank, for pointing out Glenn Reynold’s archive on 9/11. I read the whole thing and it was well worth it. And thanks to Glenn for keeping that archive going.
And khart208: as an ex-Vietnam-era submariner, THANK YOU for all the risks you took defending our country and for speaking out so eloquently above.
And to PaleoMedic, I’ll join you for that drink from a distance.
And to Sarcasm Man: I’ll defend to the death your right to express your depression and sarcasm in a free society.
Its incredibly difficult to express how I feel on this day, every year. I’m currently in College (guess where?), and have spent most of the day staring at my peers in disbelief. These folks have absolutely no consideration for what happened six years ago. In between trudging from class to class, I’ve been fighting/arguing/debating with everyone from the “truthers” to the SDS ‘tards. There was no remembrance ceremony, no moment of silence, nothing.
In my intl relations class, it was even worse. People were debating whether the reaction AFTER 9.11 would have been different if Bush wasn’t in office (in the sense that we might not have invaded Afghanistan, etc). Honestly, if you are a college student, please let me know if this is endemic, or whether its just my twisted campus.
Any words of advice from you sage and wise souls would be greatly appreciated.

I spent the first part of my morning at a link about 9/11. I am still SO FREAKING ANGRY!!! I will never forget – ever what those monsters did to those innocents and I will never forget what the liberals have done ever since by prostituting this horrible tragedy and the resulting ensuing war for their political purposes. God have mercy on their souls because I wouldn’t.
Yeah, I’ve been angry all day too, C-A-W-T. In fact, I’ve not stopped being angry since 9/11.
Islam means “Submit to Allah.” I’d rather take up arms and “Live Free or Die.” At least the people in the World Trade Center died as free men and women.
Oh, and you’re REALLY REALLY right about the Clintons.
khart208: a true American hero for his service and sacrifice and a greater patriot for that comment. As the anger over 9-11 gives way to the sorrows and horrors of war let us all remember that giving in to our enemies is sacrificing our freedom, the most un-American thing that we can do.
What I found interesting, if not surprising, was how uncharacteristically forceful Prof. Reynolds was in hist posting that day. Like this:
VIRGINIA IS MAD. So am I. Hell, so is everyone. And the TV footage of jubilant Palestinians just proves what I’ve always suspected — they just don’t get it. They’ll learn. Oh, how they’ll learn. Even if it turns out that this was done by the Chinese, or disaffected high school students, their jubilation will be long remembered. The American role as “mediator” in the Middle East is over. Since — though they don’t realize it — that’s the only thing that has kept the Palestinians in the game since 1991, their future is likely to be grim, now.

Sarcasm Man, you need a new name: Bitterness Boy, or Vacuity Vendor, or something.
