I got on another conference call with the Fred Thompson campaign by pretending to be from Townhall.com. This time it was campaign manager Bill Lacy and Fred Thompson pollster John McLaughlin along with Fred Thompson web guy Jon Henke.
First off, Bill Lacy wanted to make it clear that he could not over hype this Sunday’s debate enough. He said Fred Thompson’s performance will be “life-changing” and afterwards we will “never look at politics the same way again” and it will be as exciting as “Die Hard times a million.” It was a great call, but frankly, being a quarter Italian, I was little oft put by the ethnic slurs they used when talking about Giuliani.
Just kidding. Bill Lacy said we can expect Fred Thompson to be more like he was in the last third of his first debate. Also, Jon Henke will be liveblogging again and Carlos Pueblo will be liveblogging the debate in Spanish (presumably at the Fred File; to me, this was the most interesting announcement considering how all the Republicans skipped the Spanish debate). I’m actually a little excited to watch this one (8pm ET Sunday on FOX News), because expectation are a bit higher now that Fred Thompson has done one debate (and did pretty well).
Anyway, I took notes this time. They aren’t very good notes, but here there are and maybe you can figure out what they mean:
Bill Lacy
John McLaughlin
WebAd?
Carlos Pueblo live blog in Spanish.
First live blog debate?
Zach RedState: Unity in campaign
A: Way to unite party is to stick to conservative principles. Front runners have fallen behind Hillary.
Some other guy: Missed his question while writing “Some other guy” for his name since I missed his intro.
A. Lots of states and dates and polls mentioned.
PJM (missed name): What is approach to North East states?
A. Caution with hand on gun.
Actual A. Need to focus on early states and not just back on later states like Giuliani is planning. Expect erosion of Giuiliani support as people see how liberal he is.
Newsbusters: What if Romney wins New Hampshire in Iowa?
A. He’s declining there in the polls.
Matt Lewis from TownHall.com: What are the expectation for the second debate?
A. (Bill takes it) Fred will be like at last third of previous debate.
(McLaughlin) MSM doesn’t get conservative messages.
Anon: What was your reaction to the Chris Matthews incident?
A. (Bill) Fred demonstrated he could take anybody on.
Once again, here’s a better summary from Jim Geraghty. I didn’t ask a question this time since I already know everything.

If the Thompson camp is counting on an erosion of Giuliani support once people find out how liberal he is, their guy is dead in the water.
What don’t people already know about Giuliani? His whole life and career have been laid bare for all to see, and yet his numbers remain strong across every group of Republican voters.
Honestly, don’t YOU know all you need to know about the candidates by now (right down to Romney’s holy underwear)? This notion that Giuliani supporters have somehow been kept in the dark about his positions is insulting, like we’re a bunch of dumb Puerto Ricans.
On the contrary, it’s looking like the more people get a look at lackluster Fred, the more HIS numbers sink. He needs to emphasize his strong record of uh…er…um…
bigbro states emphatically: If you haven’t seen Fred Thompson in HBO’s ‘Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee,’ then you haven’t seen it, probably because you weren’t meant to see it.
But if you are one of those in the know, what you saw(if you are among those who actually have your vote counted…..cause ninety percent of you have your votes thrown away never to be seen)is Fred Thompson’s five minute portrayal of President Grant.
It’s a beautiful recreation of Grant and General Sherman and Senator Dawes, in the oval office, sipping cognac, while Sherman shoots billiards and Grant (Thompson) gives his take on how to save the Sioux Indians from themselves.
You see this clip and you want to go out to exhume Grant himself and give the old corpse a big GOP hug.
That five minute DVD clip is being passed around in homes that count (which is not yours). Because the question is which Republican will be president and which will be vice president (there’s not even a question that no Democrat will take more than fifty electoral votes in ’08….total landslide….final dissemination fo the leftist Democrats for good).
It’s a brilliant move from Fred Thompson’s camp, passing this short DVD segment around in the elitist homes whose votes will be counted. Campaign cost is minimal. While the charismatic effect of Fred Thompson as General Grant is, well, priceless.
Thompson’s people are a lot smarter than you think, and they aren’t telling the public about their secret campaign strategies.

THAT’S their strategy?! A film clip with Fred in a U.S. Grant get-up? I suppose they’re gonna send people (the ones who count) the clip from SNL with Rudy in drag too, right?
Lotsa luck…
I don’t really have anything to say, but I felt like there should be at least one non-wacko and non-RINO comment on here.
Frank, your notes look like my Constitutional Law class notes the day I had my broken nose repaired. I don’t know what those pills were, but it’s a good thing I lived walking distance from campus. It’s a better thing the professor didn’t call on me in that class.
I second Ernie, just wanted to even the odds up a bit.
From the Geraghty column: “There’s no way you can chalk up Iowa and New Hampshire as Romney wins right now. He’s losing stream, and we’ll see what happens.”
I knew it! I knew the Romney team’s choice of those Bosch pressure relief valves would come back to haunt them! There’s no way Mitt can maintain that amount of superheated steam inside his boiler and not see chip burnouts across his neural networking circuits.
By the way, as far as being from townhall, all I can say is screw them.
Did you know that the demoncrats have ALREADY spent more than $2 billion to secretly SEED CLOUDS on the night before election day? They figure that a cold, rainy election day will benefit them, since they’ve already spent the “walking around” money and rain will keep the elderly from voting. At least those that they havn’t already stolen their vote by getting the nurses aides to forge their signatures and request “blind” ballots. And they figure they can shoot down all the airliners carrying overseas military votes back to this country. They will let the illegals cast their votes honestly however.
…..THAT’S their strategy?! A film clip with Fred in a U.S. Grant get-up? I suppose they’re gonna send people (the ones who count) the clip from SNL with Rudy in drag too, right?……..
bigbro says: Possibly you have the imagery wrong. It was President Grant in a Fred Thompson get-up.
Obviously you don’t understand how the American voting system works. You, the people, don’t elect the president. The electoral college does. And by law, the electoral college can elect anyone they want, regardless of how the voters vote.
Besides, your votes are either changed or cast aside anyway. You live in a make believe world when you go to your poll on election day (or waste a stamp on absentee balloting).
It’s a group of very powerful, well dressed men, confering in a private meeting place who will chose the next president (and they won’t chose a woman or a black…nor will they elect any Democrat in ’08). Call them Illuminati. Call them Masons. Call them the global elite. But you can’t call them on your cell because you aren’t in their neighborhood to have their phone numbers.
Ergo, the clip from HBO is used to determine, say, a tie breaker between Rudy and Thompson as vice president (since Mit Romney has already been selected as the next president). Who looks better on television (and let’s face it, Fred Thompson has more t.v. experience than Rudy),
Now you know how the electoral college system works. Go fishing or play softball on election day. It’ll do you good.

The The Van Der Galiën Gazette says Frankenberry has an energy problem. They are correct.
